Tb fair, my brother says mainland China isn't really as bad as the media portrays them as if we take crime rate per capita into account.  The biggest problem for us Hongers, as we all know is the super corrupt CCP and their lap dog (dumb useless HK government)

Crime did not even enter my mind when I was in China. The only countries in East Asia you should be on guard for crime are the Philippines and Indonesia. The rest range from pretty safe to the safest in the world.

My uncle took his daughter and 2 grandchildren and lived at a casino there 20 or more years ago... He loved it but in the 80s my cousin was a tourist at the   Tiananmen Square in Beijing and as they were fleeing to the airport in the tourist bus they were fired at. He developed lifelong PTSD from being fired at.

My mum and sister went there too. And Hong Kong. My mother in law went to mainland China as well.

I have been watching Serpentza for a year and since he lived there for 14 years, he knows what he is talking about regardless of what Shen Li says and I wouldn't go because I cannot drink the tap water and I think that is disgusting...

Fired on in China? Gun violence in China, actually all of Asia is rare. I have never been to China, but I do know that.

It was known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre when the Chinese Students were demonstrating and the CCP SENT the army in and hundreds of kids were killed.

What happened to Tiananmen Square in China?

On the night of June 3–4, tanks and heavily armed troops advanced toward Tiananmen Square, opening fire on or crushing those who again tried to block their way.23 Sept 2024

I've never been to the Philippines but the ones in Canada or Hong Kong seems okay to nice compared to other South East Asians, for Indonesia I wouldn't give any less thoughts if they get hit by another tsunami.

Sorry to hear about this Cas.  Despite how might I sound, my beef and concern is more related to the smaller social issues and ethnics rather than the more serious or organized crimes.

As you know me on this forum for years, I dare say I'm no Chinese apologist, but despite how bad or crazy China sounds on the news or any form of media, the place surprisingly feel pretty normal once you visit there, but I do agree with the issue with food and other things like people wanting to make quick money or sloppy attitudes at work, etc.

I have not heard of a crime problem within the Filipino expat community.

The crime in the Philippines and Indonesia is mostly due to the poverty and corruption in both countries.

Every single country has a crime problem... no country can escape it...

Here is the difference. Some countries report it and make it a news topic and other countries cover it up.

If you think there are safe places then you are 100% delusional.

The culprit causing crime/s is drugs and/alcohol and people using them.

No country is squeaky clean.

You do have a good point now that you've mentioned it, Filipino's in Toronto might be a small group but never seen one on the news.  When my brother was still studying law he says black people make up the wanted list and the remaining innocent black folks have to deal with the racial profiling : |

I guess I shouldn't blame them, at least the ones that grew up poor but still choose not to follow the flow and obey the law book have my respects.

We don't have a lot of Indonesians in the areas where you and I live. But, the Philippines is one of the top three or four sources of immigration. They are here to work and build their lives and the country.

I favor the Filipinos over the Indos any day, aside from the obvious between Christian and Islam belief, I like how most of them are willing to accept the low pay jobs and even join the army, and a lot are still friendly to us despite how they get treated as 2nd class citizen in HK.

I'll take Catholic Flips over Muslim Indonesians anyday.
