Batteries wear out quicker because more data is flowing back and forth. The towers also need to be spaced closer together as compared with 2G-4G to facilitate the signal and reception, so that's another thing to consider... getting blanketed by more towers.

I doubt Kurt needs a 5G speed on his phone when 4G can easily handle most video/audio/overall streaming on a phone. If you can turn off the 5G, nothing is lost for him.

I suspect he uses it mostly for calls and some texting.

Just check what prepaid or postpaid plan he's on in order to know what support is offered to a 3G to 4G/5G transitioner.

Better safe than sorry.

(I expect a terse response from a guy here more knowledgeable about radio waves, and I'm cool anyway... lol)
