To remember an Era 35 years ago before high speed computer and internet links when we would show up at polling station ON ELECTION DAY, vote and get our results for who was the next president that night by 11:00pm?

Gotta wonder what's changed since we have all these fancy smancy high speed computers, technology and what not and need TWO weeks to vote early and a another TWO days AFTER the election to tabulate the results.

And they STILL had some cheating! democRATs are just lazy and want to do it all with a push of a button.

Seriously tho, it should be 1 day and paper ballots.

Even their excuses are bullshit.

"We can't count the early and mail-in votes until the polls close."
You mean like you used to if they'd been generated *on* election day?
And isn't at least some of the early in-person voting on machines that can give instant results?

"We have to look at the marked ballots to make sure they match the scanned results."
Then why have a fucking electronic machine at all?
Just count the damn paper ballots like you used to when we knew the results the same night.

Have they cut the number of people doing the counting?

Have they added ridiculous layers of complexity to the process?

What, in short, is the fucking problem... REALLY?

Because "that's just the way it is" doesn't pass the smell test.

We usually get our election results pretty quick. If there is a riding recount, it can be scheduled for a certain day and time.

My father was an election scrutineer for his local area over a few elections. He took it seriously enough in my estimation; twice when a recount was deemed necessary, he and all the other scrutineers and counters remained until all were satisfied that all ballots were accounted for and their preferences tabulated correctly. The results were transmitted to the relevant authorities. Once the task was completed, then they went home.

Local and state results were known on the night. Federal results might take a little longer, but only because time zone differences meant that the west of the country closed its polls two hours after the east (three hours if the eastern state were observing daylight savings (which the west did not). In any event, the public were advised of the outcome no later than the following day. It's one of the very few instances I'm aware of where a government department displays its efficiency and due diligence.

And if your absentee ballot was not lodged with the rest of the ballots by close of polling, too bad. If you wanted it counted, it was on you to make sure you ballot was submitted in a timely manner. If you cared enough, you'd do it.

That the US system is incapable of this relatively minor feat of bean counting says (eloquently enough) that the US system is corrupt and in desperate need of overhaul. Counts can happen at scale, you simply put more counters and watchers on the job. Yet year after year we see places like Maricopa County pleading that more time is needed. No, you lot need to be detained, interrogated and investigated, at length and (where necessary) imprisoned for failure to provide the service you pretended to deliver.

A service that other democracies in the western world have proved time an again they are capable of executing, both with electronic measure and without.

My first time voting was for Al Gore. It was paper ballots. First time I ever heard of cheating allegations

I would simply say they need to go back to how it was done before. What they'll WANT to do is "overhaul" it to make it even more convoluted.

Then it's not an overhaul, is it?

Anyone that equates the need for overhaul as piling more shit on top of what is already there needs to be sent back to grade school to have their bits lopped off. The same goes for those delightful little spastics who think "fortifying democracy" is the act of perverting the course of it. There'll be plenty of time to reflect on that kind of doublethink bullshit as the trannie drag queens hairy ballsacs are teabagging their leftist faces.
