When Jay Leno's show was running at a loss, he took a pay cut. Stephen Colbert could work for free, the show would still cost more to make than it brings in.

The only "political pressure" I can see was the cessation of the USAID slush fund that kept Colbert & crew's heads above water. Which I would argue was an appropriate move, considering commercial TV networks are businesses and are supposed to stand and fall on their own business acumen, not welfare payments handballed to them on the sly. Consider too, they had demonized over half of the American public simply because they wouldn't knuckle down and vote for a party of pedophiles and sexual deviants. Name me one reason why my tax dollars should be propping up a bunch of losers I don't pay attention to.

It's not as though Colbert commanded the largest viewership for that kind of program; Greg Gutfeld positively creams Colbert's numbers and people have to PAY to watch Gutfeld. Ain't nobody paying to watch Colbert make a complete ass of himself. Don't even get me started on Jimmy Fallon.
