He won reelection with a majority any Western leader would be envious of. Living standards are higher than they were under Yeltsin.

That is because he murdered his opposition leader just before the election.

Wrong. Even the US government which hates Russia reluctantly admitted Putin was elected fairly.

The man is vastly popular in his country.

LONDON — Alexei Navalny was murdered on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the late opposition leader's former chief of staff, Leonid Volkov.

Speaking to POLITICO's Power Play podcast, Volkov said he had no doubt of the cause of the former Russian opposition leader's death in February in an Arctic prison colony.

"Putin killed him. So on February 16, Vladimir Putin cold-bloodedly ordered Alexei Nalvany only to be murdered," Volkov said. "It'll take time for us to find out how exactly it happened and how exactly it was performed, but we have no doubt and it is not an issue of trust or versions, it's a fact proven beyond reasonable doubt."

Yeah right.

The Democrats use Russia as their fave whipping boy. However, they grudgingly admitted polling done by USA-funded organizations in Russia affirmed Putin's popularity to be almost exactly the same percentage as his election win.

Even if the Kremlin played a role in his death a large percentage of Russians didn't know who he was. He had no chance of defeating Putin and the West knew it.

Won from people with the fear of death in them you mean. No Western leader is envious of a tyrant.

If a "large percentage of Russians didn't know who he was," then why were there mass protests when he kept getting wrongfully jailed.

I know this is only Wikipedia but it's a fact he was poisoned in jail by Putins favourite choice of poison. I cannot believe some of you people admire that mass murdering serial killer Putin who is about to kill off North Korean soldiers now as well.

Alexei Navalny

In January 2021, Navalny returned to Russia and was immediately detained on accusations of violating parole conditions while hospitalised in Germany. Following his arrest, mass protests were held across Russia.[7] The next month, Navalny's suspended sentence was replaced with a prison sentence of over 2+1⁄2 years' detention

How do you know there nation wide protests? If there were, how do you know they were not about inflation or some other domestic issue?

My understanding is that Navalny was to Russian politics what Jill Stein was to US politics. On that ballot, but no chance of winning.

Oh and another thought... if he had "no chance of winning," then why the jailing and poisoning right before an election...

You and Shen Li aren't very politically savvy are you?

Why did mass murdering serial killer Putin fear having an opponent...

ALEXEI NAVALNY was one good looking, up standing Russian... A major threat to old balding POOTIN.

There were many candidates for president in 2018 and 2024. Navalny either polled distantly and/or performed poorly in both elections. He has never polled above 10%. Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov and ultra-nationalist Leonid Slutsky all polled ahead or finished ahead of Navalny. The West made him out to have a real chance of defeating Putin when he couldn't even poll ahead of hard rightist Slutsky. Then again, all the English language Western media lead the world to believe Hairyass would win the US election.
