Point Blank was a really good rock band formed in 1974. From Iving, Texas, they did over 200 shows a year and recorded six albums before breaking up in 1983. Sadly, they're all deceased now with the exception of the drummer.  This was their highest charting single from 1981:

I looked them up J E B Stuart and Nicole was the only hit song they ever had.

The Smiths was a Limey band formed in 1982. They had a very successful 5-year run before breaking up. I confess to not having listened to much of their catalog, but this song from 1984 stands out:

Night Ranger was formed 1982 in Turd Town, California. I don't listen to them regularly, but I have seen 'em live and they are some shreddin' fools.  They're still in bidness and have sold over 17 million albums. If I was to pick a favorite tune, it would probably be this rocker:

As hard as it may be to believe, I've never seen Def Leppard live. Well, maybe I'll correct that omission when they open their residency in Las Vegas. I can truthfully say I've been listening to 'em since the very early 80s when  I bought their album "High n Dry". 

I'll always admire drummer Rick Allen for persevering, despite losing an arm in that terrible car wreck.  Anyway, DL has sold over 100 million records and this song is one of many reasons why. Strippers love it, too:

It's a shame about Tom Petty. Wikipedia provides this regarding his cause of death:

"Petty's death was due to an "accidental overdose" stating "multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity",  a combination of fentanyl, oxycodone, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl (all opioids); temazepam and alprazolam (both benzodiazepines); and citalopram (an antidepressant)."

Tom was a hit machine like few others. I do regret failing to see them live before he passed.  This is one of my favorite songs by any artist:

I confess to not being a frequent listener of The Romantics.  That is not to imply, however, that I dislike them. They're good.  I'll just say there are not enough hours, days, weeks and years to listen to everything out there and just leave it at that.

Formed 1977 in Detroit, they are known and remembered primarily for their two biggest hits - What I Like About You and Talking In Your Sleep..  They do, however, have other lesser known songs that are good, including this:

News Flash!  Ol' Jebbie has not seen The Greg Kihn Band in concert. And sadly, that ship has sailed. Kihn died last year.

Although they did a lotta recording over the years, they didn't have a shitload o' hits and that's okay. As for hits, they had "Jeopardy" and this song, which is a dandy:

I saw The Fabulous Thunderbirds in a bar back in the mid-70s.  Shot the shit with Jimmy Vaughn during a break. Formed in 1974, it wasn't until 1986 that they produced a top-10 hit with this classic:
