Saturday marks the second day in a nationwide strike of Canada Post workers represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), with no indication yet that the two parties are getting closer to a deal.

No new parcels or letters are being accepted by the carrier and mail already in the Canada Post system is stuck in limbo as the gears of the national postage system grind to a halt.

They do not deliver much mail anymore. It's mostly light packages. They call them delivery agents now, not mailm carriers.

FedEx and UPS can accommodate some of the increased traffic from a shuttered Canada Post. Their union says they cannot, but I call bullshit on that.

Must be very tough delivering mail in winter in Canada.

Who cares. It is just another parcel delivery company.

If it wasn't daily news, I would not be aware of the strike.

They have been working without a contract all year. But, they do not have the clout they used to.

Its not like without a contract they're being exploited and threatened with mass firings.

I wonder what they asked for and what Canada Post offered. How big is the divide.

I don't know. I hope they get a good contract.

If Cucknadias postal service is like America's, it needs to go away.

It is a delivery service now, not a mail service. But, the workers need a fair contract.

I have no knowledge of the situation but I agree pay should be fair. If its anything like American government funded civil service agencies though, it needs to have the deadbeats culled.

Day twenty five with no end in sight.

Operations at Canada Post will resume at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Dec. 17, the company said, after the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered a return to work.

Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon on Friday directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the 55,000 picketing employees back to work if a deal wasn't doable before the end of the year.
