The Premier of Alberta seems to be having affect on other Premiers. This is how the Premier of Saskatchewan has responded to Trump's demands of the Northern border.

Redeploying 16 provincial law enforcement officers to patrol high-priority areas around the border.

Preparing up to 95 officers to address emerging incidents should they arise.

Enabling our officers to work with existing federal and provincial agencies to strengthen border security through high visibility surveillance, commercial vehicle enforcement and remote area patrol.

The Saskatchewan Premier has asked the federal government to commit to accelerating funding to meet Canada's 2% NATO commitment.

They further support Alberta's position in calling on the federal government to immediately appoint a border Czar to ensure Canadian borders are secure for Canadians and Americans.

A day after meeting Danielle Smith, U.S. commentator Ben Shapiro, with the 2nd largest audience of anyone in Trump's base, ripped tariffs, saying they drive up inflation and drive down Trump's approval.

Shapiro ripped into Trump's tariffs telling his largely Republican audience of 25 million how tariffs will ratchet up the price of cars and are Trump's payoff to American unions for electoral support.

Still think it was 'despicable' as the Liberal Party put it for Smith to meet him?

Good idea. Scott Moe can join the alliance.

Danielle Smith proposes 'provincial autonomy' alliance to Quebec

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has invited Quebec counterpart François Legault to form a common front for greater provincial autonomy within Canada, in a letter obtained by the National Post.

"I see an opportunity before us, as the democratically elected leaders of Alberta and Quebec, to chart a path toward a new era in Canadian federalism," writes Smith in the letter, dated March 21.

Smith says in the letter that she agrees in principle with several of the recommendations listed in the final report of the Advisory Committee on Constitutional Issues in Quebec within the Canadian Federation, an initiative of the Quebec government released in November.

As a "starting point for discussion and collaboration," Smith provided brief comments on nine of the panel's recommendations, including a call to develop a special deliberation mechanism for legislative bills that include the notwithstanding clause, to dissuade court challenges.

"Elected legislatures — not federally appointed judges — should have the final word on the scope of rights subject to a parliamentary sovereignty clause," wrote Smith.

"This is an area where our two provinces may be able to coordinate an approach that demonstrates the serious deliberation that is undertaken when invoking a parliamentary sovereignty clause."

Some good news for Canada. This is from Alberta premier Danielle Smith.

Today was an important win for Canada and Alberta, as it appears the United States has decided to uphold the majority of the free trade agreement (CUSMA) between our two nations. It also appears this will continue to be the case until after the Canadian Federal election has concluded and the newly elected Canadian government is able to renegotiate CUSMA with the U.S. Administration.
This is precisely what I have been advocating for from the U.S. Administration for months.

It means that the majority of goods sold into the United States from Canada will have no tariffs applied to them, including 0% tariffs on energy, minerals, agricultural products, uranium, seafood, potash and host of other Canadian goods.
There is still work to be done of course. Unfortunately, tariffs previously announced by the United States on Canadian automobiles, steel and aluminum have not been removed. The efforts of Premiers and the federal government should therefore shift towards removing or significantly reducing these remaining tariffs on a go forward and ensuring affected workers across Canada are generously supported until the situation is resolved.

I again call on all involved in our national advocacy efforts to focus on diplomacy and persuasion while avoiding unnecessary escalation. Clearly, this strategy has been the most effective to this point.

As it appears the worst of this tariff dispute is behind us (though there is still work to be done), it is my sincere hope that we, as Canadians, can abandon the disastrous policies that have made Canada vulnerable to and overly dependent on the United States, fast track national resource corridors, get out of the way of provincial resource development and turn our country into an independent economic juggernaut and energy superpower.

It expected the lifting of tariffs on Canadian energy imports. That traitor Carney wants to place an export tariff on Canadian energy.

Doug Ford's confrontational approach has been a failure. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's diplomatic approach has worked.

Ford would not accept Ottawa strangling the auto industry the way they have Alberta's oil and gas sector.

This editorial appeared in the Sun newspaper chain.

Ford is mad at Smith because she won't play along with Ford's Team Canada approach to the Canada-U.S. trade war. Well, Smith isn't exactly pleased with Ford's refusal to help out Team Conservative. So there.

On Monday, in an online address, Smith laid out Alberta's case against the Liberals in Ottawa. For the past 10 years (and off and on for decades before that), the Liberals have "demonized" Alberta and layered one environmental regulation on another to try to shut down the oil and gas business.

Just in lost investment, the Liberals' No More Pipelines Act (Bill C-69), their oil tanker ban off the West Coast, their emissions cap on oil and gas production, EV mandate that insists every new vehicle sold in Canada be all-electric by 2035, net-zero power grid, plastics ban and censoring of oil companies or executives who speak out against climate alarmism has cost Alberta $300 billion — maybe more.

Doug Ford would probably understand Premier Smith's position better if the Trudeau government had spent its nearly 10 years in power trying to shut down (or at least hobble) the Ontario auto industry.

At least when Ottawa dictated that all new cars and light trucks would have to be EVs by 2035 they followed up with tens of billions of tax dollars to Ontario plants to subsidize EV and battery manufacturing. Even if you think, as I do, those EV subsidies were wrong, you can still get my point. Ottawa didn't offer Alberta much of anything by way of compensation when it tried to decimate the oil and gas business.

So forgive Albertans if they resist being lectured by Premier Ford about getting all Kumbaya with Ottawa and Team Canada.

On Tuesday, in response to Smith's Monday address (which included the possibility of Alberta holding an independence referendum next year if enough citizens sign a petition demanding one), Ford said "You know, united we stand, divided we fall and we have to be united, Canada together, to fight President Trump's tariffs."

That's easy to say for a premier whose province hasn't been singled out by Ottawa the way Alberta has.

From a practical standpoint, consider that Premier Ford adopted a confrontational approach to the U.S. (including threats of shutting off Ontario electricity to portions of three states) while Premier Smith pursued a more diplomatic approach. And now Ontario metals and automobiles are subject to 25 per cent tariffs when entering the States, while Alberta oil is taxed at 10 per cent.

If Doug Ford wants to head a united Team Canada, he would do better to encourage Carney to treat Alberta's demands seriously, rather than scolding Premier Smith.

Smith laid out a serious plan to protect Alberta and push back:

✔ Pursuing a new "Alberta Accord" within Canada
✔ Demanding guaranteed port access for Alberta energy and resources
✔ Calling for the repeal of harmful federal laws like C-69 and the energy production cap
✔ Requiring Alberta's consent before Ottawa restricts our exports
✔ Fighting for equal federal transfers — the same deal Ontario, Quebec and B.C. already get
✔ Launching the Alberta Next panel to explore long-term protections
✔ Preparing for a 2026 referendum on key proposals that emerge from these discussions
✔ Defending Indigenous rights and Treaties without compromise
