^Yeah, I saw that on Global Edmonton yesterday. It must suck for those handful of employees who lost their jobs, but if they switch their allegiances too perhaps Rachel Notley's dippers, Sherman's Grits or the PC's can find them new jobs. Merry fucking Christmas.

QuotePreston Manning: Wildrose-PC Merger Advice Was A Mistake

The former leader of the Reform Party says he made a mistake when he gave advice to members of Alberta's Wildrose on uniting with the governing Progressive Conservatives.

Preston Manning met last week with the Wildrose caucus to talk about his experiences before the Reform Party joined the federal Conservatives to form the Canadian Alliance in 2000.

Manning said Monday that he should have recommended more consultation with constituents in the meeting with Wildrose.

The Canadian Alliance formed only after a "democratic process of discussion with grassroots members, several consultative referendums, large conferences on principles and policy, a vote on acceptance or rejection by party members," he said in a statement released through the Manning Centre for Building Democracy.

"My failure to strongly recommend a similar process to the Wildrose caucus was a mistake on my part. It was a disservice to those who sought my counsel and to those who have placed their trust in my commitment to democracy — a mistake for which I now sincerely apologize to all concerned."

Manning told reporters after the Wildrose crossover that keeping a new party alive is difficult.

He cited how the Reform Party had hit a wall and was stuck in the position of never being able to get out of the opposition benches.

"It was that that forced us to look at something broader and I think that same situation faces the Wildrose," Manning said, adding that the provincial party should be proud of what it accomplished.

Wildrose named legislature member Heather Forsyth as interim leader on Monday.

She said that in the pursuit of power, Smith and the defectors swept aside democracy.

A surprising turn of events:

QuoteDanielle Smith Loses PC Nomination

Former Wildrose leader Danielle Smith, once the darling of Alberta's political right who nearly toppled the Tory dynasty three years ago, lost the PC nomination race in her riding of Highwood on Saturday.

Smith, who along with eight other Wildrose MLAs, defected to the Progressive Conservatives in stunning fashion late last year, lost her bid to carry the Tory blue and orange banner in the general election to Carrie Fischer, a rookie councillor for the town of Okotoks.

"I did want to get a mandate to be the PC candidate for Highwood, but of course residents felt otherwise," Smith said.

"It's important for conservatives to unify under his leadership," Smith told reporters. "We have $50 oil, a $7-billion hole in the budget and I think that Mr. Prentice with his budget came through with the right balance of spending austerity, as well as revenue increases and dipping into the contingency fund."

QuoteDanielle Smith to Global News Reporter: "Piss Off"

Asked Sunday afternoon via text message whether she had a few minutes to talk about Saturday night's shocking upset, Smith responded, "No. I am leaving public life."

A follow up message asked whether that ruled out any future runs for public office.

"Piss off," Smith responded. "Leave me alone."

She later apologized, saying her response was inappropriate and that she wasn't ready to speak to the media.

QuoteEx-Wildrose Candidate: "We Need Lots of Brown People in the Front"

This is the last thing the Wildrose Party needs — on a night of celebration and renewal, things turned sour as a stage microphone picked up an offensive comment by Bill Jarvis, a now-former candidate for the party.

The words were overheard Saturday night as Wildrose candidates filed onto a stage at the Calgary Sheraton Cavalier Hotel, only minutes before newly appointed leader Brian Jean took the podium to promote the party (after Danielle Smith left post-defeat).

Jarvis, ex-Wildrose candidate for Calgary-South East, said "We need lots of brown people in the front" on a live microphone. He smiles wide while making the comment.

"You know the mic's on, right?" asked another member, to which Jarvis replied, "Is the mic on? Ah, OK."

New Wildrose leader Jean asked for Jarvis' resignation almost immediately after the incident.

"The comment was disrespectful, and while I accept that Mr. Jarvis did not intend to insult, I will not accept inappropriate statements that fail to show respect for all Albertans," said Jean in a statement.

Jarvis was quick to apologize in a statement issued on Sunday.

"I recognize that my comments might have caused offence. That was certainly not my intent," said Jarvis. "I have apologized to my friend Calgary-Fort candidate Jeevan Mangat and I apologize to Brian Jean and all Wildrose candidates."

Wildrose are not even close to being big spending Neo-cons that combine the worst of left and right you fucking dunce. In fact, now that Premier Prentice delivered a socialist-friendly budget that does not tackle Alberta's runaway, bloated civil service costs they are now tied with the PC's in the polls again.

PC and Wildrose tied for support among voters: poll

Shen Li always has something nice to say about everone, and expresses herself in such a well-mannered, logical manner. I appreciate the fact she never disparages other posters by calling them silly names.

You on the other hand are incapable of anything other than repeating editorials from your favourite ideological rags. We should call you parrot.
