Quote from: J E B Stuart on March 07, 2025, 04:40:47 PMNo question, Queen produced a large and very successful body of work. That said, I bought their first album waaay back when. To this day, my favorite Queen tunes are from that album. This is one of them:

I know Freddie was a great front man. But, I never could get into that band's music.

I guess I'm of a somewhat similar mind. Except for that first album, none of their later stuff ever makes it to my playlists.

This is one of my favourite rock songs from that decade.

Stealers Wheel was formed in 1972 in Scotland by pals Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty. Both are now deceased, but their music lives on.  "Stuck in the Middle" is their most well-known song, but by no means is it their only good one.  They were very melodic and I've always liked this one from 1973:

Sweet Emotion was released in 1975. It was from Toys In The Attic which, IMHO, is Aerosmith's best album. That said, I must confess I haven't listened to every single thing they've produced.  So, in the interest of fairness, perhaps I should instead say that it is the best album of theirs I've heard. And this is definitely one of their best songs:

Amen.

I've seen ZZ Top twice. Wish it coulda been more. This boogie about a real life cat house outside La Grange, Texas put ZZ on the big-time map:

Wishbone Ash has been ongoing since 1969.  If you were told you could have only one album by them, you would not go wrong with 1972's Argus. Wishbone set the standard for twin lead guitars:

Good song, Princess. At one time in her career, Elliman had three songs in the top 10.

That and Rocks were their best albums in old Herman's opinion.

My problem with ZZ Top is that they would reinvent their sound with every album. Does Fandango sound like Eliminator? No, it does not.

There are pros and cons to doing that. In another thread, someone said AC/DC always sounds the same. But, that's one of the things I like about them - they have their own sound and they don't stray too far from it.

I began listening to ZZ when their second album Rio Grande Mud came out. In line with what you're saying, that album and Tres Hombres (their 3rd album) are the only ones I have.  And I have no desire to acquire any others. That said, however, they are a treasure to watch live.  Dusty Hill's replacement has turned out to be a great fit, too.

I will give you that. I have heard from folks they put on a good live show. I would not go see them because they have too many songs I do not like.
