This is the picture of what Canada could well become in the next 15 years if we continue on this Highway to Hell.

It is written by federal government deep-thinkers skilled at looking into the future.

In a library it would be best catalogued in the section marked Horror.

It is 2040 Canada. It is not the desired future but it is the plausible future.

"It sounds incredible, something from a post-apocalyptic TV show like Fallout or The Last of Us," says Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievere.

"It blows my mind.

"It is just hard to believe, when you read these words, this is about Canada."

One attention-grabber.

In 2040, people might have to find alternative ways to meet their basic needs. They may start to hunt, fish and forage on public lands and waterways and not worry about the regulations.

Hardly anyone believes they can build a better life for themselves or their kids through their own efforts.

Many worry about sliding down the social order.

Education beyond high school excludes all but the wealthy.

Owning a home is not a realistic goal for many.

Inequality between those who rent and those who own has become a driver of conflict.

People see inheritance as the only reliable way to get ahead.

Society becomes more and more like an aristocracy, wealth and status is passed down.

People rarely mix with those of a different status.

Advertising drives the desire to climb the social ladder but economic reality leaves individuals a limited chance of success.

Most people rely on gig work and side hustles.

The Canadian economy shrinks. More people struggle making ends meet, frustration could leave many people deeply unhappy. Mental health may suffer.

More people may move out of Canada where they believe upward social mobility and/or higher standards of living are easier to achieve.

If young workers leave, it may become harder to pay for the systems supporting a growing number of older people.

Naturally, people who work hard but see little reward may reject the systems they believed failed them.

Read this carefully. What follows could be the biggest insight of them all.

Individuals may attack policies believed to favour older people who benefited in the past.

We are already seeing the start of this feeling in this election when Liberal-voting boomers are seen as looking out for themselves and not giving a damn about others or a future where they will not play a part.

In extreme cases, people could reject the legitimacy of the government. They might evade their taxes or engage in other civil disobedience.

People may lose faith in Canada. Some might embrace radical ideas on how to change things.

"I am shocked," says Poilievre.

"This is not an interest group or an opinion columnist or even a think-tank. It's the prime minister's personal department. I think somebody has to ask Mark Carney: Has he seen this report?"

Poilievre bangs the drum for change and sounds the call of hope, of taking a very different approach to running the country, very different than Carney.

Carney stokes the fear of those who believe the U.S. under President Donald Trump is actually taking over Canada, which is not happening.

Or Carney speaks of his grand scheme to spend way more taxpayer dollars than Justin Trudeau.

Poilievre reminds Canadians the Liberals are the Liberals are the Liberals.

The Carney makeover is not even a mediocre job of cosmetic surgery.

It's closer to putting lipstick on that pig.

"Liberals are trying to do everything in their power to make you forget about the last decade they have foisted upon us," says Poilievre.

Meanwhile, the government report sticks with the Conservative leader as he points to "a total meltdown, a societal breakdown in Canada if we stay on the current track."

"Why this isn't blazing the front pages of every news outlet in the country right now is beyond me."

Poilievre knows the answer. We all know the answer.

This is the most consequential election in my lifetime. The results will determine if Canada returns to prosperity and liberty or we become the Argentina of the North.

Have you ever noticed that it's "Highway to Hell" and "Stairway to Heaven"?

Gives you a good idea of how much traffic there is in each direction.

It is so sad what the Liberals have done to Canada. It will not be a first world nation a decade from now.
