Hope the school gets taken to the cleaners.  Send a very strong message to all universities that the era of claiming to be color blind while promoting color is over.

I think there is still room for affirmative action avatar_Prof Emeritus at Fawk U Prof

But it should be needs & income based than by race or gender. It should also address regional shortages where there aren't enough doctors nurses or health professionals. This way a person regardless of race or gender could benefit and in turn help disadvantaged communities and poorer region. Ie Native reservations or White Appalachia.

Same time I think anyone who is a recipient of such programs should be obligated to sign a contract to work in poorer regions for a minimum of 15 years where they are needed.

Giving affirmative action based on race didn't solve America's regional shortages of health care personnel. Makes no sense to use Affirmative Action to train a Black Doctor to practice plastic surgery in Beverly Hills where there is already a glut of those kind 9f doctors.

Affirmative action has been proven to be a failure.  Especially when DEI was determining who gets to be placed in charge when they clearly didn't deserve it.  Just ask the former president of Harvard.

I think Affirmative Action went a bit too far & didn't address issues like skill shortages or regional disparities.

I dunno. Maybe call it something else to make it less offensive.

But how do you think they should address this problem of doctor/health professionals shortages in rural areas avatar_Prof Emeritus at Fawk U Prof?

I think if AA is provided to address regional shortages the recipients should be forced to sign a contract so the government can send them where they're needed. This isn't that different in concept to providing ROTC training in the States. Sure they get free training but afterwards the government sends them where they are needed whether the ROTC graduate likes it or not.

But there has to be a net benefit for extending AA.

Anyway if someone from a poorer region wants to become a doctor but makes a long term commitment to stay there, why not give them some slack? Otherwise the physicians all gravitate to large urban centers where theres sometimes a surplus of doctors.
