Canadians are vaguely aware that in the last decade we've been uncompetitive with peer countries in economic growth and the rise of our standard of living.

It's not even vaguely anymore. The signs of Canada's decay were everywhere when I left and I hear it's still getting worse.

In the United States, on whose strategic direction and political and economic health the condition of the entire West chiefly depends, President Trump, no matter how appalled many may be by his lack of gentility, is moving decisively to stimulate economic growth.  He's reducing the trade deficit, and inflation, increased job creation, and has effectively closed the borders to illegal immigration.

I remember about twelve or thirteen years ago the US and Canada were almost at par in terms of GDP. Now the wealth gap is wide with Americans a lot wealthier thanks to a much higher growth than Canada.

What pisses me off is that too many Canadians, especially older Whites don't give a fuck. They made their money and don't care that future generations won't prosper. That's one of the main reasons we emigrated. Older urban white Canadians are selfish assholes with no values.

If the US is so much better off than Canada, how come there are so many Americans struggling Shen Li Shen?

Maybe what's skewing those numbers are people at the top are doing well but the bottom 90% not so much.

So if there are 10% that are doing well then you get a distorted reality of what is really going on in the American economy & how well its citizens are really doing.

It's not that simple. They have insulated themselves from Canada's slide, but that doesn't mean they don't care about their country. They take the good life for granted and believe it's only a blip even though it has gone on for over a decade with organizations from banks to the RCMP warning another lost decade lies ahead.
