You're right on the rest of it though. With the entry fees of performers to the frozen white north attracting four and five figure sums before a single ticket gets sold, many performers do not in fact bother to include Canada in their itineraries. Additionally a good many smaller struggling venues cannot afford to pay the government-inflated prices, not when a local act will accept a booking fee of $200 or less to play for three sets of an hour or more each before returning to their day jobs. With the overheads involved in your average gig, a local act and the venues are lucky to break even, never mind the poor bastards that make it up from south of the border.
