That was probably because The New Lair was only allowed to operate for a few hours per day. At the time, Al Gore was still in charge of the internet and when the forum was open and the posts were hitting the threads at a frenzied pace, the entire internet slowed down and there was concern the servers would go off line and it would be an unmitigated disaster. It almost happened once when both me and Gurk were in the arcade at the exact same moment but thankfully a tragedy was averted by a timely forum shut down that cost both of us new high scores. True story, I'm sure Reggie Essent can back me up on this.
