In 1967, it was a revelation.

Four members...drums, lead, keyboard and lead vocals. Where's the bass?

They were iconic in their creativity and ability to rock hard in one song "Roadhouse Blues", then seduce you with sedating imagery in "Riders On The Storm".

The Doors were musically as adept as the Stones, and had Jimbo kicked his habit, they would be regarded as titans of rock and roll.

Quote from: "Renee"All right that's better. That's more in line with what I would have expected from you.

But I'm still not really impressed. You seem to have the same tastes and musical knowledge of many in the Boomer generation.

BTW, why do you think Status Quo never achieved the same level of popularity in the US as it did and still has in the UK? Oh and let's not degenerate into some anti US diatribe when you answer. The States has historically been very accepting and indeed hungry for bands from across the pond so don't go blaming it on our lack of acknowledgment of talent or some tired and stupid shit like that.

Do ya think the fact that I am a boomer might be a factor???? DERP!!!

I have no idea who or what is popular in the US, and I fail to see what you're getting at. I'm well aware that a horde of British bands have large followings there, as I belong to many of their forums. I would be hungering for British bands too, if my nation was responsible for abhorrations like Kiss, System Of A Down and every rap song ever created.

But to be fair, the US gave us Dylan, Zappa, Lynrd Skynrd, B B King and The Doors, so its not entirely a wasteland of musical prowess.

You fail to see what I'm getting at? Are you that dense?

It was a simple straight forward question. All I was looking for was your take on why a particular band that was very popular in the UK couldn't seem to make the leap to popularity in the US when so many of their contemporays did. I didn't think it was that difficult to figure out what I was asking and for a self proclaimed musical genius such as yourself, it should have been a cake walk to answer.

BUT if you can't give an intelligent answer to my query, just say so and furthermore, there is no need to get fucking snotty, you prissy little shit.

Yes, they were revolutionary in mixing flamenco with rock at a time where folk was topping charts.  The bass was in the keyboard.  The stoned out lyrics and sleepy voice of Morrison does nothing for me.

Firstly, how the fuck would I know what's popular in the US, other than guns and rioting??? Carrying on from that, why should I care??

Secondly, why do I care who is popular where? I know what I like, and if you don't like it, I shall still awake on the morrow...

But take a band like Roxy Music. In the UK, Oz, NZ and most of Europe they were stadium fillers. In the US, no-one was interested.

Why, I do not know. And even less, do I care.

Bonnie Raitt is a major US artist.

She plays pubs and small halls here (thank goodness...its a much better experience.

What is wrong with you? I swear that you must be afflicted with the "I can't STFU because I'm an asshole" disease.

Why did I expect a civil conversation free from your cheesy, tired, anti-US dribbling? I really should know better by now. Do me a favor if you are capable, the next time you want to beat your chest about whatever subject, save it for someone who doesn't know just how full of shit you actually are.

BTW, the reason Roxy Music wasn't more popular in the US was because "glam" took a little longer to catch on in the US. In the 1970s when they were very popular in the UK their style of music simply wasn't popular here. But it did eventually catch on in the early 80s but by 1983 Roxy Music had basically disbanded. Nonetheless the release of Avalon made Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music very popular here.

See how it's done, screw head? Take a lesson in civility FFS.

Fuck you.

I'm civil to everyone. You are my one wicked indulgence.

Did you see what you did there? You answered your own stupid question. Simple really. So why ask me what works in the US? I repeat, the only thing that I see has mass appeal is guns and rioting.

How about this...pseudo-electro-punk Ultravox!
