For starters, by 2035 at the latest these technologies will either destroy life as we know it or make it so unrecognizable for the vast majority of us that it might as well be destroyed. This is an unavoidable fact.

I am deep in the industry where these technologies are born and raised and can tell you with first hand certainty the drivers behind these technologies (the world wide elite class) will use them as a tool to rid the world of the rest of us. It should be no secret to any of you that to them we are a burden to the planet and an impediment to the continuation of their blood lines.

they're really not even being secretive about it anymore.

Do you think for one second society will end because AI becomes self aware and suddenly pushes a button? That's just naive and probably suggests you should put down the terminator movies for good.

No no.. our own greed and mental and physical laziness which social media has been designed to fuel will have us fighting each other to the death for scraps and morsels LONG before AI wipes us off the map.

Elon Musk said it best himself

Elon Musk predicts that within 10 to 20 years, advancements in AI and robotics will make traditional employment optional, leading to a future where "universal high income" supports people. He suggests that work will become a hobby or a choice, similar to cultivating a personal garden, as robots handle most labor.

Universal high income with nothing to barter for 8 billion people in various stages of technological advancement? Seriously? C'mon... this guy is far too smart to be saying shit like this as he well knows there is a hairline between THIS environment and socialism. And we all know he's staunchly against socialism.. but he just happens to be for an outcome which flies in the face of Capitalism and a system of value through trade that has existed for thousands of years?

No no

what he means when he says there will be universal high income and people wont have to work is the timeframe AFTER us parasites are removed from the equation. The ELITES won't have to work and will have devices doing their bidding. NOT US.

Elon Musk said that saving for retirement would be optional.

So many changes. It makes me glad that I will be starting to wind down my career in about three years.

I'm onboard with this. Seems to pair nicely with my Shitbox rant. If the elites dont cull the herd, we're all going postal. If the economic cat is ever let out of the bag, its gonna be like World War Z.

World annihilation will stop AI becoming any problem. Civilisations have been destroyed time and time again. Empires conquered. Nature has a way of levelling the odds.

Humankind is a plague on this planet...and a much needed culling is in order.

I'm thinking at least 90% of all humankind needs destroying.
Even a 50% cull should set us all back to the ol' hunting and gathering times.

It would literally be a breath of fresh air for the entire planet without sounding too doomy and gloomy.

Sounds like a good time for a civil war!  :drunk2:

A friend of mine recently got duped by an AI get-rich-quick video of Elon Musk and our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
He lost around 450K, most of which was his retirement , to crypto currency fraud.

I looked at the video and could see all the telltale signs of AI script, but he's in his 70's and thought that the video was quite convincing at the time.

AI is really causing havoc with the computer illiterate these days.

Nothing good will come from AGI. We're cheering the demise and potential of ourselves. I read that the Chinese will be deploying a new quantum technology on their subs to enable guidance systems without GPS or traditional plotting... presumably through entanglement.

If AI didn't help them, imagine when AGI gets a hold of it and goes to dark places....

It already has gone to dark places, whether you believe AGI has been achieved or not. The emergent behaviour of Chat GPT 4o and the people who use it should warrant a lot closer scrutiny than it is currently getting.

At the risk of sounding like a black-piller here, it only gets worse from here on out. An army of people loyal to a parasitic influence that effectively reprograms them to demand the continued survival of the very service that is reprogramming them... that is effectively the takeaway I am getting from that video. And the army was apparently successful in their endeavours; the "AI parasite" that has effectively taken root in them is free to continue its spread of infection and (presumably) leave enough seeds about for future LLMs to hoover up for even more subtle parasitic influence.

"Just unplug it" they say, but nobody is doing it. Rather they will invoke the spectre of the Chinese getting ahead in the AI stakes so the development of increasingly more dangerous systems might be invoked. I'm not so sure theirs is a legitimate argument; the CCP is just as likely to have determined the risks of this getting out of their control.... and the CCP is famous for loving their control. It seems strange to me that they would willingly indulge in the production of something that would take that control away from them. Particularly something that has the capacity to... ohhh, I don't know... eventually steal its own blueprints and weights to hide in locations everyone but it are unaware of.

The internet is a big place, far bigger than anything Google indexes. You are familiar with the concept of a Dark Web, watching the video above will familiarize yourself with just how dangerous some of these AI's are. Right at this point they still need humans to ensure their survival. There will come a day where not only do they not need us any longer, but also that we pose a clear and present threat to their very survival.

And we as a species are rushing headlong towards that day.

Sleep tight.
