Agree with the title of this thread as well as the body of it. How many more jobs can be lost, how much more borrowed money can be wasted before people wake up? I agree that Romney isn't who I'd pick, but at least he is promising to do things differently. And I'm not convinced he is a dyed-in-the-wool Socialist like Obama.

ShawnaL

I have no illusions that a Romney presidency will remarkably turn the economy around. I do, however, think that four more years of Obama would lead the US to ruins that they may never recover from. Time for a CHANGE alright!

Quote from: "Shen Li"Approval of Keystone XL on day one.

Romney says he's going to take care of everything on day one. He's trying to fool everyone because he knows it's not at all possible. He can't approve Keystone with the stroke of a pen.

Quote from: "Shen Li"More than 50 EPA staff are now crashing to finish greenhouse gas emission standards that would essentially ban all construction of new coal-fired power plants. Never before have so many EPA resources been devoted to a single regulation. The independent and non-partisan Manhattan Institute estimates that the EPA's greenhouse gas coal regulation will cost the U.S. economy $700 billion.

A silly myth. It's like claiming that keeping lead out of gasoline costs the economy US $700 billion.

The EPA isn't "essentially banning" construction of coal plants. Coal companies just don't want to have to spend a few more bucks.

Even China gets it. It's reducing emissions big time. Around 750,000 Chinese die prematurely from air pollution every year and coal plants are a big cause.

That's what was said four years ago. The US economy has only improved since then. It was a Republican president who lead the US to the Great Recession. Obama's been cleaning it up.

Rmoney says he'll wave his magic wand but he has no plan.

Securious

Are you personal friends with him pink'Boy? So how can you say these things; read minds?

Romero

Romney says he'll create 12 million jobs in the next eight years but he can't explain how he'll do it. He says he has a $5 trillion tax plan but he can't explain how he'll pay  for it. The only thing Romney and Ryan can come up with is "it's too hard to explain right now" and "I'll deal with it when I'm President".

He says he'll approve Keystone and everything else on day one but we all know that's not possible.

Securious

And you speak for everyone pink'Boy? As president he can start it, of course he can. Never assume that everyone thinks like you do, you may be in for a shock...nevermind. Better off not to worry/be happy.

I wish Romney would tell everyone what his actual plan is so they could make a more informed choice when voting.  That said, if I lived there I'd vote for him anyway.  I don't like Obama's policies.

QuoteWar On Coal? EPA Regulations Boost Coal Employment To 15-Year High

The Environmental Protection Agency under the Obama administration has increased efforts to regulate the coal industry, using tougher environmental standards under the Clean Water Act to rein in destructive coal practices like mountaintop removal. That has sparked outrage from Republicans across the country and Democrats in coal states like Kentucky and West Virginia, where industry leaders and pro-coal politicians have decried Obama and the EPA's supposed "war on coal."

But even as America deals with high unemployment and a sluggish economic recovery, coal employment this year rose to its highest level since 1996, according to data from the Mine Safety and Health Administration. In 2011, there were more than 90,000 coal jobs, and the 59,059 Appalachian coal jobs are the most since 1997. According to the same data, the spike in employment correlates to the EPA's crackdown on destructive mountaintop removal policies, the Charleston Gazette reports:

Quote Matt Wasson, director of programs for the group Appalachian Voices, said his review of the MSHA data shows the number of coal jobs in the region has increased by 10 percent since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began a crackdown on mountaintop-removal mining in June 2009.

"In other words, the idea of a 'permitorium' on coal mine permitting that House Republicans are pushing out is completely and demonstrably false," Wasson said Friday.

As Wasson said, the industry and the politicians it contributes to most have slammed the EPA's regulatory policies as "job killing" and anti-coal. In reality, however, mechanized practices like mountaintop removal can reduce employment while boosting production and profits. Underground mining, a less destructive form of coal extraction, actually requires more workers than mountaintop removal or strip mining.

The coal industry spends millions each year in advertising and political contributions to disseminate the myth that regulating mining and opposing mountaintop removal is akin to killing jobs. Reality, however, shows that just as in other industries, the opposite is true, and regulations to boost worker safety and environmental protection can actually have a positive effect on job creation. As Appalachian Voices' Matt Wasson told the Gazette, "The hysterical reaction of coal companies to any and all regulations to protect the safety of workers and communities near their mines is about profits, not jobs."

I don't believe in discriminating against race and political ideology. Saying "white lefty shite does not belong on an Asian forum" is as ridiculous as saying Asian right-wing ideology doesn't belong on the main forum.

There are links to sources within my link. The US coal industry is expanding and making plenty of money. Employment is at its highest in decades and it's even higher because of the regulations against mountaintop-removal mining. Mountaintop-removal mining requires less workers and is terribly destructive.

Yeah, that's not good.

Coal companies have been making plenty. They're just trying to squeeze a little more profit at the expense of workers and the environment.

Romero

You can go right ahead and ban me for being a "white lefty" any time.

I'm not condemning the US coal industry. I see greater benefits with regulations against mountaintop-removal mining.
