Anyone Ever Been To Disneyland in Anaheim?

My husband and I are considering doing something special for March break 2013.



Any suggestions for reasonably priced accomodations and things to see around LA for a family of four?



We thought about driving, but that is a long time for our children to remain still.



From reading about LA on Google a car is an absolute must.



We haven't mentioned Disneyland to our children yet because it is still just in the exploratory phase.



I am just looking for advice that will help us decide if an LA trip is for us or not..



I also realize it doesn't compare to retiring in the Cook Islands.

Disneyland's a blast. You, your husband and kids gotta go there some time.



There are affordable packages. You can get a decent motel in Anaheim and the shuttle buses are convenient.



You do need a car to check out LA but you can rent one.

Yes, that's what we did too in Anaheim. We flew to LA and then rented a car and took the boys to Anaheim and checked into a hotel near Disneyland. The boys had a blast. We timed our visit with our oldest son's birthday and so he had a birthday bash with Mickey Mouse and friends. You can have that arranged, you see. We stayed in Anaheim on one visit and we stayed in LA on another visit and went to Universal Studios there. We rented a car at each visit.

The trip will be for my children, but I'm the one getting excited thinking about it.

How Cook Islands got in here is interesting to say the least however I too have been to LA [inadvertently though] As a result of a trip my office had honouring their best people we  won a trip to Vegas. Upon arriving I was in awe of all the energy of the place..it never slept. We walked the next night along the famous strip, went in our casino for a bit of gambling. [ours was the Bellagio] I won 700$ US on the slots within minutes and decided with my wife we should take the cash and rent a car, go to LA then to San Diego. Before we went though we drove to area 51 the next night and visited the Alien café on the Alien Hwy. We drove across the desert next day passing Palm Springs and all those wind power generators , huge things dotted everywhere!. We passed Roy Roger's Museum where Trigger is stuffed...he he only in America where they celebrate anything.

In LA I drove to Hollywood, the movie sets: Universal/MGM etc. Then the "Hills" to get a picture of us near the sign while noticing all the gated residences to the famous. On to Rodeo Drive and spent the afternoon pretending we were rich folks wandering aimlessly in and out of all these salons and boujtiques..LOL. We got a few stares and a few "How are you today Sir/Madam" too..he he. Yes we looked the part alright. Fooled most of them too.Mary was stuck on all the jewelery stores I noticed. I wanted to leave as she was getting exited about getting a ring there..YIKES!

Off we went to Santa Monica..The Beach. It was a honk tonk type of place although the walk on the pier was fun. It went on and on and on out to sea.

 From there we joined the "speedway" the LA traffic in  rush hour and we wanted to go South. What a job that was staying in our lane "safely"...all in multi-laned traffic, all jostling each other to get ahead.

Phew/we got though that safely and on we went down the coastal route past the Naval Yards.Next day we visited their famous zoo. What a place that was! I recommend this to anyone who has children and adults who are children like us. We passed Disneyland on the way down and didn't think twice about it. But on the way back we needed to get off the Hwy and find a Motel, it was in Anaheim and it was getting late [9PM],I was pooped. We woke early, opened our doors for some air and staring us right in the face was "Disneyland". We did a double-take and agreed it was wise not to go. It looked trashy. Such is our brush with Disney.

I went to Disneyland at Anaheim...purely because as a child growing up, this was paradise on earth, brought to you courtesy of Disney's vast mass media network...



I never had the opportunity to experience it as a child...but my kids got the chance.



It still meant something, because it was the first...the original...the dreamland for millions of children all over the world in the 50's and 60's...One day, it will be like the pyramids...a cultural icon.

It was the emotional experience...a place I dreamed of as a child....it took a while, but here I was.
