I don't object to daylight savings because in Saskatchewan we don't observe it. Take that you high altitude Albertans and British Columbians.

... that's what i thought, Herman.  bravo to saskatchewan for that!  BC should take your province's lead and do the same ...

This is actually a very common misconception.  Farmers apparently HATE daylight saving time.



It was first proposed by William Willett to the British Parliament in 1907 as a way to take full advantage of the day's light.



Germany was the first country to implement DST. Clocks there were first turned forward at 11:00 p.m. (23:00) on April 30, 1916.  The rationale was to minimize the use of artificial lighting in order to save fuel for the war effort during World War I. The idea was quickly followed by Britain and many other countries, including the United States. Many countries reverted back to standard time after World War I. It wasn't until the next World War that DST made its return in many countries in order to save vital energy resources for the war.



The U.S. Congress extended DST to a period of ten months in 1974 and eight months in 1975, in hopes to save energy following the 1973 oil embargo. The trial period showed that DST saved the energy equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil each day, but DST still proved to be controversial. Many complained that the dark winter mornings endangered the lives of children going to school.

I prefer the current and correct time. That daylite until 8:00pm crap during the summer is for the birds. I would much rather have it dark at the proper time. That being said, I really dislike the hassle of the time change.

We get daylight until nearly ten pm here in God's country.

Everybody should follow Saskatchewan's example. Now that the NDP is gutting Alberta's economy, we are now the jobs dynamo of the nation.

When I had young children, more daylight hours in the summer was welcome. Those young children are a little older now. Still, more daylight hours in the summer will always be welcome to me.
