We only get a pittance of castaways as we're way too far and they have to migrate down through Asia Minor and through Indonesia towards us. They'd rather do a quicky and get a chance to run down the English Channel.

Australia has geographic advantages that EU countries do not. The land down under is only using it to it's advantage by discouraging the flood of queue jumpers the Europeans are getting.

We are in the midst of a federal election campaign, but immigration and refugee settlement are not issues. None of the federal parties wants to discuss it. At least we should be asked if we would prefer Australia's approach to refugees heading to their shores or Europe's surrender to queue jumpers.
