Quote from: "RW"So what's stopping us from pulling Alberta out of this slump and using our own product?

Greenie rhetoric and governments prepared to go along with it so as to use up everyone else's easy product first and when the pumps eventually run dry, world dominance.

Why eat the treats out of your own pantry when your poorer neighbors are willing to use up theirs and feed you instead? So you feast until your neighbors run out then cut them loose when they've got nothing to offer.

The West is mostly sitting on their petroleum prospects and I believe they will for many more decades to come.

Quite the opposite in fact. OPEC has no interest is losing market share to Canadian oil. They would prefer we bought it from the likes of Nigeria than use our own.

OPEC doesn't care. The Saudis won't reduce output because it messes with Iran's reentry and by default helps Western plans to deliver further economic blows to Russia and non-OPEC oil nations in the crosshairs. It's the soft portion of the coming world war. NATO positioning attempts along Russia's borders, Western media rhetoric, and China's artificial islands underpin this, but that's an entirely different discussion we can leave for later if you like.

OPEC doesn't care about competition?? Are your for real?

Canada has the world's third largest proven reserves and we are one of only a few countries that can continue to ratchet up production over the long term according to the IEA.

OPEC but particularly the Saudis don't care about the short to medium term. They can afford to suppress prices and bleed Iran, Russia, and other targets in central America and along Asia. Like I said, they're part of the West's soft war, and they'll benefit over the longer term with or without Western ramp ups. It's the game being played currently. It's really quite ingenious to witness but doesn't bode well for the World's populations when established and emerging powers one day physically confront each other instead of playing grab ass.

Didn't someone in the House of Saud identify oil from Canada as a challenge to that country?

It was long ago accepted that Saudi is HEAVILY cash supportive of envo groups and any means possible to thwart Can oil and the Keystone

It suits their purposes, and they use some of their own oil $ to play for keeps - always have

I have been working in the oil and gas business for 29 years. I have never seen Saudi Arabia become more nervous as they now are since Alberta oilsands became viable.
