Apparently they were comments about his race.

Do you think the Minister shouldn't be the minister because he's East Indian?

Lieutenant-Colonel.

In addition:

He was bestowed with the Meritorious Service Medal in 2012 for diluting the Taliban's influence in Kandahar Province.  He has also been awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. He also received the Order of Military Merit award. He was recognized as "the best single Canadian intelligence asset" in the Kandahar theatre by Brigadier-General David Fraser. He also served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. His intelligence gathering skills were sought after. The Commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan's southern provinces requested that Sajjan join the U.S. Command Team for a third deployment 2010, where he served as Special Assistant to then Major-General James L. Terry. He consulted for US policy analyst Barnett Rubin.

His religiously required facial hair prevents the use of regular military gas masks. Sajjan invented his own gas mask that worked with his beard, and patented it in 1996.

QuoteTrump Approves 'Operation Wetback', But "Wouldn't Use" Politically Incorrect Term

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Wednesday night challenged Donald Trump over the Republican presidential candidate's support for the deportation model used by Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s, noting that the former president's removal of immigrants at the time was "brutal."

O'Reilly first asked Trump if he knew what Eisenhower named the deportation program.

"I do but I don't like the term. I wouldn't use the term," Trump responded, alluding to the program's title, "Operation Wetback."

The Fox host then lectured Trump about Eisenhower's deportation process, through which the U.S. deported hundreds of thousand of immigrants, often under horrific conditions. American officials dropped many of the immigrants off in remote areas of Mexico without a way to get home, and some died in the sweltering heat.

PCism isn't about avoiding offensive terminology nor does fighting PCism mean you have to be offensive.  It's about being ridiculous about it.

Quote from: "RW"MONTREAL—The Canadian military is investigating one of its members from Quebec after "inappropriate comments" were posted on Facebook about Harjit Sajjan, the new minister of national defence.

A spokesperson for the Canadian Armed Forces would not reveal the content of the message, which was reportedly quickly removed from the social media site. But in a statement, Daniel Le Bouthillier wrote that "racist attitudes are not compatible with military ethos and with effective military service."

The offensive comments appeared less than 24 hours after Sajjan — an observant Sikh who is a former Vancouver Police officer and a decorated soldier who served three tours in Afghanistan and another in Bosnia — was sworn in as defence minister in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal government on Nov. 4.

A source in the department of national defence said the member of the military who allegedly wrote the Facebook post is a non-commissioned officer from CFB Valcartier, near Quebec City.

"We have had an incident in which a high-ranking member of military posted negative comments on a Facebook page about our minister," wrote Chief Warrant Officer Kevin West, the military's top-ranking non-commissioned officer in an email to troops on Nov. 5 that was obtained by Le Droit.

"It's totally unacceptable. We already deal with conduct problems on a daily bases in our ranks and it's our duty, and that of our leaders, to put an end to it immediately. I was made aware of this incident and to say that I am mad is not the word."

West's email to the troops was written in English and translated into French by the newspaper. In the message, West apologized for sending an English-only email but explained that he wanted to get his message out urgently.

But Le Droit reported that the unilingual warning apparently displeased some francophone troops and a complaint has been filed with the Official Languages Commissioner's office, which enforces breaches of the Official Languages Act.

Nelson Kalil, a spokesperson for commissioner Graham Fraser could not comment on the report or confirm whether a complaint had been filed because the office was closed for Remembrance Day.

The military statement explained that the individual's commanding officer who must decide what further action, if any, is required. Other disciplinary measures can include ordering the individual into counseling, a probationary period, suspension from duty or even a recommendation of release if the incident is deemed sufficiently serious.

This story made me cringe as it strikes me as being everything that is wrong with our mamby pamby, PC society.

People have a right to their personal opinions.  That right should exist outside of the workplace about the workplace and extend even further into fair comment about a political figure.

The language thing is laughable to me in its ridiculousness.

Do we have nothing better to do with our time than bitch about things that are rather insignificant?

I agree that there should be zero tolerance for racism in the Canadian Forces.

RW

You want to know what it is Ro?  It's when what a guy writes a supposedly racist comment on his Facebook wall about a political figure becomes national news.

It's when when young people at colleges and universities can't laugh at comedians anymore.  It's when we can't talk about sensitive subjects without being labeled racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.  Most importantly, it's when people think this is progress.

What it's not is discouraging actual racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.  It's not removing disruptive trolls from a forum.  It's definitely not an excuse to invade people's privacy.

Does that extend into a soldier's personal life?

Does that extend into a soldier's personal life?

Should serving soldiers be allowed membership in groups like the Aryan brotherhood?
