I have dual citizenship. The Minister can now strip me of my Australian citizenship and I would have NO recourse.

Unless you go overseas to join jihadist groups, you have nothing to worry about.

The authority to rescind Australian citizenship from dual citizenship holders is not qualified by any form of conduct.



The Minister is now able to rescind MY Australian citizenship, and I have no recourse.



It is not necessary for me to demonstrate ANY form of terrorist act.

What is the criteria for rescinding citizenship?

The discretion of the relevant Minister. Period.



The current minister has stated that he would only use this authority in the case of international terrorist activities.

Whilst the general thrust of the legislation is applauded, there are no enough safeguards in it for non-terrorist related circumstances. For example, many of our bikies are from other countries; the Minister can, and already has cancelled the Australian citizenship of one (although he was not in the country at the time). Now, we may think getting rid of organised gang members isn't such a bad idea. How about embezzlers. Rapists. Paedophiles. Shoplifters. Drunk drivers.
