There's a lawsuit being prepared by a number of ex NHL enforcers who are suffering brain injuries from repeated fights..

I saw an interview with one of them and I am sorry I can't recall his name, but he displays many of the symptoms Ali did in the early stages of his decline.

I remember when Mohamed Ali first started exhibiting symptoms; they tried blaming it on insecticide that was being used around his house. That was bullshit too.

Many ex-NFL players also have the same symptoms and lawsuits have been brought against the NFL because of it. Over the years the prevention of brain injury has been made a priority in football but not so much in other contact sports.

Boxing is a barbaric sport.........Ali was a victim of the fact that some pretty shady people wanted to protect the business of making millions off of two nitwits, beating the shit out of each other for the enjoyment of a bunch of blood thirsty goons.

Even if the sport of boxing or mixed martial arts admitted that 20 years of competing in those sports will cause brain injury, I have no doubt young men would still pursue those "sports".

I agree but steps could be taken to help reduce the frequency of injuries to the brain and nervous system.

When I played ball in High School and college I suffered at least 5 concussions. If you played like me it was just the nature of the beast. I wasn't all that big and there was always some big bull dyke that thought she could run me over. Unfortunately I don't back down and I got clobbered regularly.

There was only two times (that I can remember) being looked at throughly by a medical professional after the fact. Most times I got a half assed look over by the coach and I sat out the rest of the game. Now 5 concussions over a period of 8 years doesn't sound like much but I have no idea what it did to me or if it will affect me down the line.

We simply do not know enough about how injury to the brain affects people and why it affects some and not others. Maybe getting hit the head and knocked on my fat ass so many times is why I'm so whacky.
