U.S. Still Spends More on Health Care than Any Other Country

The other side has always made "tort reform" a prerequisite to health care. You see, the main reason for high health costs there is the cost of insurance, a result of ludicrous jury settlements (most docs pay  over 100 grand a year, some specialist 300, 000) .. staggering, suffocating ... but dipshit & his buds all get much of their  campaign money from ambulance chaser attorneys ... so guess what? Not a single attempt to reform it. That's why the new system will fail ... already is showing open signs of failure. Until tort reform (limiting jury awards), the system CANNOT succeed.

BTW, I think you have done one of the best jobs of determining a nick. It's brilliant

Glad you like it cc and thanks for the free education you are giving us. I knew liability was an issue south of the border, but I didn't know the extent of it. I am not anti-American, but their democracy has some shortcomings. For a man that has made health care accessible for all Americans, Obama doesn't seem to want to do the one thing that will make it affordable. It's such a shame that greedy lawyers with a suitcase full of money can dictate that health care must be expensive for 320 million people.

For those of us that have families health care is such an important issue for us..

My husband works for a very large international oilfield service contractor and we have lived abroad for one year..

He has also taken training several times at head office in Houston, Texas..

What is interesting is that people we met in Texas were more worried about health care than the poor country we lived in for one year.

I am not questioning cc's reasons why health care is so expensive in the USA just that it is strange health care is a bigger worry for Americans than some people in the third world.

I'm still in disbelief that Obama was re-elected, I thought Americans were smart enough not to re-elect him but I was absolutely wrong    oh yeah, he's the hollywood president

QuoteOn Wednesday night's edition of "The Rachel Maddow Show," host Rachel Maddow gleefully took apart Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R)'s purported rebuttal to President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech. She noted that Rubio's speech must have been written ahead of time because Rubio was rebutting a number of statements that Obama hadn't made.

But first, there was Sen. Marco Rubio's flop-sweaty, water-gulping performance to sit through, what Maddow characterized as the Republican Party's first chance to make nice with the public that they had apparently so thoroughly alienated prior to Election Day 2012.

However, if you're trying to win back the 11 percent of women who favored Democrats over Republicans last year, Maddow pointed out, maybe you shouldn't push the guy who voted against renewing Violence Against Women Act out front as your new avatar.

The more remarkable aspect of Rubio's speech, though, was the fact that it seemed to have been written in response to some other speech than the one the president gave on Tuesday night.

"He wrote complaints in his own speech about what he thought President Obama would say," she said. "But when President Obama did not actually say those things, Mr. Rubio did not adjust his speech to take out the complaints."

As a result, Rubio came off as debating a president who wasn't there. "Mr. Rubio's whole wind-up," she said, "was about how President Obama had just spent his whole State of the Union address defending big government and demanding even bigger government."

In his remarks, the president explicitly stated that a bigger government was not his goal.

Similarly, Rubio sarcastically said that Tuesday night would have been a good night to put out a new Medicare plan, already. Trouble is, President Obama had just laid out a new Medicare plan in his speech.

The Florida senator made a similar gaffe with regard to the house and neighborhood where he lives, claiming to be residing in the very same "working class neighborhood" he grew up in, when in fact, reports have surfaced that the Rubio family is moving away from that neighborhood and asking $675,000 for their house there.

Why would a person do that, Maddow asked. Why go on record in the highest-profile speech of their life as saying that they love their neighborhood when they're also on record trying to move away from it?

LMAO @ the left's desperate kindergarten attacks. The entire MSMedia is making total a fool  of itself trying to prop up their failure in Washington.

Quote from: "Shen Li"F*ck, I missed Marco Rubio's rebuttal. Anyone see it?

Much of it. It was a classic. He's a refreshing individual. The MSMedia is terrified of him upsetting their 2 bit phony applecart that they worked so hard to create

Also, Rand Paul was great.

QuoteAlberta cabinet ministers are praising U.S. President Barack Obama's remarks on climate change and say his state of the union address shows the Americans are catching up to what the province has already done.

"After years of being out front alone on this in Alberta, now we have a president very strongly signalling that the opportunity is in front of the American people to move aggressively on these files," Intergovernmental Relations Minister Cal Dallas said Thursday. "We know that what's been handed to us by the indications from the president's address is that our largest trading partner is prepared to move with us."

Still, provincial environment officials have been asked to speed up work on oilsands monitoring. As well, a "renewal" of Alberta's climate change strategy — possibly including a higher price on carbon — is expected soon.

Obama used Tuesday's state of the union speech to promise action on climate change, either through market-based solutions or regulation. U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson later said that message was meant as much for Canada as it was for the United States.

The statements came at a nervous time for Alberta, as the U.S. State Department led by pro-environment Senator John Kerry considers whether to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline is considered crucial to move more oilsands bitumen to markets, but is bitterly opposed by American environmentalists as long-term infrastructure that will lock the U.S. into high-carbon fuels.

McQueen said she's given her staff a clean slate to update the climate change strategy. Officials are, however, likely to recommend a higher price on carbon emissions than the current $15 a tonne, widely considered to be too low to make a difference.

"That was certainly always something that was on the books, that we would progress to a higher amount. That I would expect would be one of the options that they would bring forward."

Opposition Wildrose party Leader Danielle Smith called the remarks from Obama and Jacobson a "challenge" to Canada. She said Alberta could reduce its carbon emissions and improve its environmental image with practical methods such as encouraging the shift to natural gas from coal for power generation. The "obsession" with the oilsands is unfair, she said.

Coal-fired power plants are by far Alberta's largest source of greenhouse gases. "Some of the biggest strides we'd be able to make would be moving from coal to natural gas," Smith said.

New Democrat environment critic Rachel Notley said Alberta should be pressing Ottawa to do more as well. "They need to publicly call out the federal government and say, 'We need to put a higher price on carbon and you guys need to lead the way.'"

Obama made me bristle everytime I heard him utter the word "invest". His administration has invested about $5.8 billion in red ink already. How can the leader of a country that broke serioulsy consider new spending? The leader of a nation that much in the whole should be talking about spending cuts and reform. Instead new "investments"(debt) and new regulation(slower growth).

So far, 36 companies that were offered federal support from taxpayers are faltering — either having gone bankrupt or laying off workers or heading for bankruptcy. This list includes only those companies that received federal money from the Obama Administration's Department of Energy and other agencies. The amount of money indicated does not reflect how much was actually received or spent but how much was offered. The amount also does not include other state, local, and federal tax credits and subsidies, which push the amount of money these companies have received from taxpayers even higher.

This the complete list of faltering or bankrupt green-energy companies:

    Evergreen Solar ($25 million)*

    SpectraWatt ($500,000)*

    Solyndra ($535 million)*

    Beacon Power ($43 million)*

    Nevada Geothermal ($98.5 million)

    SunPower ($1.2 billion)

    First Solar ($1.46 billion)

    Babcock and Brown ($178 million)

    EnerDel's subsidiary Ener1 ($118.5 million)*

    Amonix ($5.9 million)

    Fisker Automotive ($529 million)

    Abound Solar ($400 million)*

    A123 Systems ($279 million)*

Willard and Kelsey Solar Group ($700,981)*

    Johnson Controls ($299 million)

    Schneider Electric ($86 million)

    Brightsource ($1.6 billion)

    ECOtality ($126.2 million)

    Raser Technologies ($33 million)*

    Energy Conversion Devices ($13.3 million)*

    Mountain Plaza, Inc. ($2 million)*

Olsen's Crop Service and Olsen's Mills Acquisition Company ($10 million)*

    Range Fuels ($80 million)*

    Thompson River Power ($6.5 million)*

    Stirling Energy Systems ($7 million)*

    Azure Dynamics ($5.4 million)*

    GreenVolts ($500,000)

    Vestas ($50 million)

LG Chem's subsidiary Compact Power ($151 million)

    Nordic Windpower ($16 million)*

    Navistar ($39 million)

    Satcon ($3 million)*

    Konarka Technologies Inc. ($20 million)*

    Mascoma Corp. ($100 million)

More "investments" like these ones; no thanks.

Yet he continues. Learn from mistakes? Not a chance.

He further had the gaul during the campaign to claim GM was saved ... not mentioning that GM still had not repaid billions it owed the govt.

I could go on, but find it all an overwhelming mystery. The country is dead broke and he doesn't seem to know it ..... or maybe he does? There are those who believed from the start that his objective was to make the US an ineffectual country. I must say that all of his actions have gone a long way to supporting their belief.

Apart from the absurd economics, his upside down actions with islamic countries support the belief of some that he is islamic in his heart. Sending 4 F 16s to a radical regime recently was not enough. This week it was announced that the other 16 are a .... believe it or not .. "urgent priority"

"Upside down". That's what everything going on is. When someone does only country-destructive or society-destructive things it does start to take on the appearance of deliberate  and maybe should make one should look for motive?? Certainly by doing literally everything upside down, he has given the conspiracy theorists a tremendous amount of confirming material.

I don't know exactly what is going on right now, but I know the end result will be horrendous, and if it's not already, totally devastating to the US

I am putting up the white flag cc. You have a more thorough knowledge of his record than I do. I knew his pet spending programs and stimulus packages were subpar, but I did not know GM was still owing billions to Uncle Sam. Where I am really in over my head though cc is his actions on the ME. If you are ok with it, I will just nod and agree when this happens again.

NO!!!!! NO!!!!! NO!!!!!

Please. Say your piece. I had and have no intent to intimidate. While I closely follow US Govt and islamic lands and their antics, there is much so I have to learn. There always will be. Please have your say. It takes everyone to make a discussion complete.

Your list above for example is new to me. I have seen older ones, but your updated and rapidly grown list tells a great (albeit sad) story and adds much to the overall picture.
