The US gun laws are seriously fucked if they allow the ownership of a military class of weapons by civilians or even access to them.

I have little doubt that radical Islam played a role in inciting the gun shooter Mateen to mow down his victims. But the other half at fault in this incident are lax gun laws which permit civilians to have easy access to assault weapons.



Really, unauthorized possession of such a dangerous class of weapons by civilians should be a crime in the same class as possession & trafficking of heroin or pedophilia. If a civilian accesses them, they should do hard time, like 10 to 15 years in the slammer minimum with no possibility for parole.



Civilians simply don't need to own or have access to military assault weapons. Only the police and military do.

Yes, that was part of it. But the other was lax gun laws and a lack of oversight in the United States regarding the possession and transport of deadly assault weapons such as the AR-15. At least in Canada, it is classified as a restricted weapon, never to be used outside of a shooting range. A permit issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is mandatory when transporting such firearms between the home and the shooting range. The AR15 is not allowed. For hunting purposes in Canada.
