Quote'That is how a police officer is supposed to do their job': Black Edmontonian posts police encounter online

Edmontonian Kurt Thomas was so concerned about what was happening to black men in the United States, that when he was pulled over by a police officer, he recorded the interaction. What happened surprised even him.

Thomas said he felt the recording was his only way of protecting himself if a ticket for speeding in a construction zone on Whitemud Drive escalated into something more serious.

"I always feel tension when it comes to police officers," he said. "I fit the demographic of the people I think receive the most difficult time with law enforcement."

Thomas said even when he was a child, he felt officers were suspicious of him, even when all he was doing was playing basketball.

99 percent of the time, if you are cooperative with cops in Canada they are very professional.

Of course I think the police in Canada are excellent.

I found that a bit offensive truth be told.  That guy filmed because he was worried about a traffic stop?  That he might not go home?  Excuse me but what country does he think he's living in?!?

Better yet, why is an invented boogeyman and an attempt to play the race card news???

Insulting and stupid.

I know what RW and Jock are saying. This guy is a drama queen for fucking sure. Thousands of Edmontonians are stopped each month for traffic violations. The cops very rarely kill any of them ffs.

RW

I did a lazy man's Google search and I couldn't find any instances of Canadian cops shooting black people at traffic stops.  Again, I didn't search very hard but all that came up was American stuff.

I have lived in this city since I came to Canada and I can't recall the EPS ever wasting anyone over a traffic stop.

He watches too much American media.

RW

Sure does.  Then looks down.  Sees some black skin and freaks out.
