John Abbott College denies allegations by Sun News commentator Ezra Levant that David Suzuki requested female-only bodyguards for his visit to the college last October.



Levant lashed out at the enviromentalist this week during his controversial week-day show The Source, saying Suzuki had requested female-only "escorts" for his visit and that his request bordered on "creepy". Levant also called Suzuki a "hypocrite" for accepting a $30,000 speaker's fee for the appearance while at the same time speaking out against rampant consumerism.



Levant said he got his information from emails he said were written by John Abbott officials about Suzuki's visit. He said he obtained the emails through access-to-information requests.



The statement issued by the college on Wednesday reads: "To set the record straight regarding Dr. David Suzuki's visit to our campus October 24, both male and female students escorted him throughout a full day and evening of activities in order to facilitate his movements throughout our campus. Those students, all of whom were chosen for their professionalism, were part of our Police Technology program.



"There was no rider in (Suzuki's) contract specifying the gender or dress code of those assisting him throughout the day. The negative comments and innuendos made are demeaning to those students and to the college and are the result of the misinterpretation of emails exchanged between colleagues."



The statement said Suzuki's fee was in line with his full day of activities, which included a speech before 1,600 students, streamed live on the Internet to 13,000 students at schools in the Lester B. Pearson School Board and followed by a question-and-answer period, his appearance at the official opening of the campus' Science and Health Technologies Building and his keynote speech given during a gala fundraiser that evening, attended by the college foundation's benefactors.

I remember once listening to an interview on the radio and hearing David Suzuki say   that whenever he saw a white guy he would want to go and beat him up for all the bad things that white people have done to the natives,the blacks etc.....   Now this is very interesting because...



1  David Suzuki is Japanese and IF  WW2 is scrutinised one will find that the Japanese were even worse than the nazis to the peoples that they conquered

It was a banner day for John Abbott College as one of Canada's best-known environmentalists; Dr. David Suzuki addressed the students and staff of the Ste. Anne de Bellevue School last week. JAC rolled out the red carpet for Suzuki, cancelling morning classes so thousands of students could watch him live in the gym and on closed circuit television. Also joining in was almost 14,000 Lester B. Pearson School Board students who watched via a live webcast.



JAC student Joanne Santos is working her way towards an environmental certificate from the college. "I found him (Suzuki) a down-to-earth kind of guy," she said. "I learned that environmentalism is a lot more than just re-cycling. It's about changing our values." Santos's fellow student and friend Karyna Evangelista felt Suzuki spoke from the heart, not "dumbing it down" for students. "He expects the same amount from us as adults," she said. "We (young adults) have the power. Everything involves the environment, which is why we have to keep it in mind."



Suzuki's address coincided with the inauguration of the college's new, yet-to-be-named science and health technologies building, a $43 million public-private project that houses the pure and applied sciences and professional training programs (nursing and paramedics).



"I am thrilled that Dr. David Suzuki was able to be with us," said JAC Director General Ginette Sheehy. "The timing could not be better as we are celebrating the opening of our new Science and Health Technologies building which, we hope, will be certified LEED gold. At the beginning of the project, the college community asked the administration to do everything in its power to make the new learning facility a green building and we have delivered."

I know a few people personally who have worked for and with him and they don't say he's a nasty piece of work at all.  Quite the opposite actually. (And they're all white Gary.)

I showed up at a book-signing in Victoria to interview him and discovered that the man I had thought of as a kind, wise environmentalist was in fact an obnoxious, rude guy who made no attempt to hide his contempt of the fans gazing at him all fawn-eyed and adoring.

You see, I grew up hearing, watching and reading things about and by David Suzuki. He is an intelligent man. I have always respected what he believes, and trusted what he does. Until now. -
