One must always drink beer in moderation...lest one's sperm turns bitter, or in the ladies case...a yeasty sediment. It defines "spit or swallow".  ac_drinks

Tis a dark ale, brewed in Victoria.

Very tasty.

I liked Victoria Bitter when I lived in Queensland. Coopers was good too.

Coopers is probably Australia's best mass produced beer. But like everywhere else, boutique brewers are starting up everywhere and brewing unique and more crafted ales.

Same thing is happening across Canada and the states too.

Gallium

Australia has some of the best craft beers in the entire world. The craft boom at the moment is seeing some very fine ales produced.

Drink this a lot. Another beer with a dryer flavor. Tastes good when it 95 with 100% humidity.

Travelled much, skip?

Australian beers pale (pun intended) in comparison to English craft beers and cider. Most of our beer is lager for the masses. True, craft brewers are lifting the bar considerably, but its noticeable that as soon as a craft beer starts selling, the big boys buy their label out.

Little Creatures as an example.

England has a tradition of craft brewers that is in a resurgence, and some of their red ales, served straight from the wooden barrel, are up to 20% proof. Australia's pride in its local brews is somewhat misguided.

Totally agree. English brewers have truly perfected the art from the Germans over the past centuries. As for cider, I think the English are world renowned.

It's a pity Australian beer companies have sold out to foreign companies...that's greed for ya.

Coopers & Little Creatures are some of my favourite brands over the past years. A couple of the brewers from Little Creatures have "broken away" and started up another label called Stone & Wood in Byron Bay. Not a bad drop either.

I used to be in the viticulture (wine) industry and through that also ended up working for a Craft/Boutique brewer as their barman for over 2 years. I was also involved in the actual brewing process and spent many early morning(3am) slogging away making up kegs.

The part that I found to be most interesting was how one could substitute part of the Hops (bittering agent) for certain fruits and flowers to create unique flavours. A great example was strawberries, where the yeast would convert the sugars into alcohol amping it up to around 6.5alc.vol and the rest of the strawberries left to tart up and provide bitterness for the substituted hops.

The art of making beer is indeed a special craft.

Angry White Male

Tons of different beer available here in Canada now.  With free trade or whatever, I can buy a can of English or German beer for the same price as any of our locally produced beers.

To be honest though, I don't like the stronger English beers.  Guiness is pretty tough for me to choke down, but I guess one is just used to what they drink.

I still yak back my Molson Canadian's, but I'm not sure why I still do so...  Up until recently they still brewed here locally in Van with good paying union jobs for the workers.  That plant has recently closed, so I guess I'm really not brand loyal anymore.

Labatt had a brewery in New West a few years ago, but that's gone too.

Anything that isn't too dark or heavy, with around 5% alcohol, works for me.
