When you talk about The Steve Miller Band you're essentially talking about Steve Miller.  Formed in 1966, TSMB became a hit machine in the 70s. This unforgettable gem went all the way to #1 in the USA as well as several other countries in 1973:

I can agree with you to this extent - none of SMB's songs after Fly Like an Eagle appear on any of my playlists. That said, Book of Dreams from 1977 yielded three big hits: Jet Airliner; Jungle Love and Swingtown. Also, Abracadabra from a few years later was pretty damn big. 

All things considered, I do think Fly Like An Eagle was his best album and that's saying a lot. He's put out beaucoup music over the years.

Formed 1970 in Doraville, Georgia, The Atlanta Rhythm Section is still in business. Their most successful years were in the 70s. This song came out in 1978 and is one of my favorites:

Glam rock band Mott The Hoople was formed in 1969 in Herefordshire, England. By 1972, they were on the verge of breaking up, but David Bowie persuaded them to record this song. You can say the rest is history as this number kicked off the success that had eluded them thus far:

Man. Sad to hear that. And I had no idea he'd essentially been out of commission since 2016: 

"Ralphs has been in a nursing facility since he suffered a stroke in 2016."
