Canned Heat was formed in 1965.  This 1968 hit of theirs remains one of my favorites. Lead singer Alan Wilson sadly became a member of the 27 Club on September 3, 1970.  In fact, I think he died two weeks before Jimi Hendrix of acute barbituate intoxication. There was speculation it was suicide, but he did not leave a note.  Fortunately, he did leave us some great music, including this number:

Amen.
Deo vindice

Formed in 1968 in Brooklyn, New York, Alive and Kickin' is the quintessential one hit wonder.  And what a hit it was. Written by the great Tommy James and Bob King, the song made it all the way to #7 and stayed on the charts for 16 weeks in 1970:

Amen.
Deo vindice

I confess I don't frequently listen to The Moody Blues, but I will give them some righteous props. Formed in 1964, the hall-of-famers have sold over 70 million albums. Released in 1968, this is one of my favorites, although it isn't even close to being one of their biggest hits:

Amen.
Deo vindice

All 1960's music sounded similar.

Heh. Here's an interesting Wikipedia bio of a 60s group:

"Dino, Desi & Billy were an American singing trio that existed between 1964 and 1969. The group featured Dean "Dino" Martin (Dean Paul Martin, the son of singer and actor Dean Martin), Desi Arnaz Jr. (Desiderio Arnaz IV, the son of television stars Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball), and their friend Billy Hinsche."

I woulda named 'em The Silver Spoons. Regardless, catch the ages of these kids when they made their Ed Sullivan appearance:

Mom likes 1960's music. I don't hate it. However, if you've heard 1 song from that decade, you've heard them all.

Cream is widely considered to be rock's first supergroup. Sadly, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker are no longer with us, leaving Eric Clapton as the sole surviving member. I consider this classic to be their signature song, although it certainly isn't their only great number. In three short years, they put out four albums. This was released as a single in 1967:

I coulda posted this in the Canuck rock artists thread. After all, the original members of Steppenwolf were the remnants of Sparrow, a Canadian band. Oh well, I'm posting it here and that's that.

Steppenwolf was formed in 1967.  The most astonishing thing about them is that they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've seen 'em live twice.  IMHO, there is no Steppenwolf without John Kay. This 1968 classic is always good:

Amen.
Deo vindice

A hit or two of acid and I could get into that tune back in the day.

In my youth, this was one of my absolute most favorite songs.  The only criticism I recall ever reading of it is that it was too perfect. Imagine that.  I don't listen to CSN or CSNY like I used to years ago. Same goes for Neil Young, David Crosby and Stephen Stills. Some of that was because I got tired o' their preachy politics.

I've eventually reconciled it with the fact that there were many songs produced by them individually and in various combinations that are entrenched in the soundtrack of my life. And they can't take that from me. This is truly a beautiful song:

The Byrds were formed in 1964. They had a number of hits and are definitely entrenched in the soundtrack of my life. My favorite song by them turned out to be their last top 20 hit. Some contend that it didn't chart higher because it was, in fact, banned by many radio stations due to claims it referenced drug use. The writers denied it at the time, but later admitted it was to some extent. As for me, I don't give a shit.  It's a damn good song and that's that:

Amen.
Deo vindice
