I remember as a kid wondering why in hell anyone would name a band The Doors. Well, Wikipedia says:

"The band took its name from the title of the English writer Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, itself a reference to a quote by the English poet William Blake."

Mmmmkay, but I've never read it and I doubt I ever will. As for The Doors, though, I have listened to them a lot off and on over the years. This is their #1 classic from 1967 and it is as good now as it was back then:

Formed in 1965, a lotta people are unaware that Grace Slick wasn't an original member of Jefferson Airplane. Signey Toly Anderson was their first female vocalist. She stayed a year, but left to give birth to her first child. And it was shortly afterward that great fame came-a-knockin'.

Released in 1969, this isn't their most well known song, although it did make it to #60. Regardless, I've always liked it:

I saw Scott McKenzie back in the 1880's when he toured with The Mommas & The Poppas. He had a big international hit in 1967 with a song written by John Phillips (founding member on The Mommas & The Poppas).  Interestingly, he been invited to join TM&TP back when they were originally formed back in the 1960's, but declined to pursue a solo career. He was never able to duplicate the success of his huge hit, although he did have a minor hit in 1967 called "Like An Old Time Movie". But, I digress. Here's "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair):

The last time I was in San Francisco was over 20 years ago. Even then, it was already well on its way to becoming a shit hole. It was pretty damn nasty.

I've been there a number of times. The pitiful thing about the west coast becoming a shithole rookery is that there is such an incredible abundance of spectacular beauty there.

As a rough rule of thumb - steer clear of urban areas.

I quite liked their album, Morrison Hotel. Most of the songs were compiled in the late sixties and the album released in 1970. I steer away from all their commercial songs because Jimmy would've hated hearing all that on the radio.

This album has some melodic and melancholic vibes about it... it toned down a notch but leaves you feeling fucking great.

I like to listen to this album on my headphones when I'm wood turning.

I've been to Vancouver at least ten times enroute to Asia and we have friends there......like all Canadian cities it has deteriorated..

We went to Los Angeles and San Diego thirteen years ago.....I preferred San Diego.

Have you been to Victoria, B. C.?  I spent a day there a number of years ago. I'd never heard anything about it, but I thought it was a beautiful city.
