We have these white socialists in Canada who are stuck in the 1970's. They haven't accepted the reality that old way of doing things have changed. We face stiff competiton from places like Asia now that we didn't in the past. People live longer and there are fewer young people to support growing legions of pensioners. We also don't grow economies enough to afford extravagant entitlements. People need to save more and be more personally responsible, but in order to do that they need to keep more of their own money. How do they do that you ask? Governments need to spend less and pass on the savings to the people.

True.

Has there been much opposition to the liberalizing reforms that the Nordic countries(save Norway) have brought in?

Not much.

As I am sure you are aware, I am a conservative. EU and Romero's views are not out of the ordinary in Canada. Any time even minor structural reforms are brought in there is oppositon from people like them. We saw that with the monor changes to Old Ages Security.

Despite what Romero thinks, I do like Canada. Our politics is quite another matter though.

There´s always atleast one person who will oppose the changes no matter how beneficial they are.

Politicians in the Scandinavian countries have a real vision it seems. Ours make all the tough decisions in the first year of a mandate and spend the next 3-4 years buying votes.

That´s somewhat of a trend all around the globe but we also have a number of "I ain´t gonna sugar-coat it, folks" type of politicians.

That is the key difference between Finnish politicians and their Canadian counterparts. Politicians here don't have the balls to do that because that will guarantee they do not win the election.

Hey Odie, you wanna trade elected leaders?

I do have one in mind.

Päivi Räsänen, minister of interior, the leader of christianic-democratic party. She is one of the stupidest blondes I´ve ever seen and she is the commander of the police.

Good, we'll take her and you take about 275 out our 308 Members of Parliament. Oh yeah, plus every provincial premier minus Brad Wall in Saskatchewan.

 All the green-league and christianic-democratic party yahoos from Finland.

But I´m going to sleep now.

Good night, gorgeous.

Take out the word "white" and that was a good post. :)
