You mean like hope and change. Now that was a CON.

The con of cons was Justin Trudeau's entire election campaign. I think Canadians are starting to wake up to that fact.

Congratulations Mr Trump. Our success is tied to yours. I wos you the best.

Maybe it's time we untied ourselves from that.  Trump has made it clear that he doesn't give a flying fuck about any other country other than the US.  That includes Canada.

I respect all our past presidents. I can never call any of them idiot or moron. My upbringing dictates they deserve my respect.

Apparently, my favorite Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway's outfit is making waves on the internet. I like it. It's her birthday today. She turned 50. She can be flamboyant on her 50th birthday. I have worn red, white and b l u e too when I felt patriotic. I would wear her outfit too.

IHJ, there's nobody that posts here who's job is more dependent on trade than yours. Protectionism should be very worrisome to you.

The left in the US felt betrayed by Obama, that is true. The TPP, spying on Americans, the escalation of the war in Afghanistan, pro Wall Street, Obamacare is seen as a sellout compromise on health care and the acceleration of income disparity that you mentioned.

I think the big wins were on the social side, nation wide legalization of same sex marriage, and the legalization/decrininalization of pot in some states. However, the supreme court can take credit for the former even though both Obama and Biden did eventually support it.

I miss every presidential inauguration....oh darn.

I saw that picture rohomo posted. What he doesn't tell you is that in 2013 numbers were down from about 1.8 million to around one million. Not much more than the number Trump got. Besides, do you Hillary inspired so much confidence in people, she would have packed them in?

Trump was not my candidate. I don't think he can do everything he promised, but neither could Obama and Trudeau can't either. But, if Trump can save some industrial jobs(maybe even bring a few back), lower taxes and raise growth from let's say a paltry 1.8 per cent to about 2.5 per cent than he will be good for most Americans. Slow the flow of illegals and he would be a better president than Hillary by a country mile.

I do believe US growth is set to take off, but that is not about a vote of confidence in Trump's planned expansionist policies. Americans haven't felt secure to open their wallets for a long time, but now there is pent up consumer demand and they are finally starting to feel confident enough to spend.

The economic records of presidents is as much about luck as policy. Obama was actually fortunate. The global economy fell into disarray near the end of Bush's second term. Even though the Bush administration was not responsible for the mess that had it's genesis a decade earlier, Obama could blame it on him and get the sympathy of the public for taking over an economy in crisis. There was only one way to go from there and of course he gets credit for "saving" an economy even though his policies had little to do with the rebound.  Obama wasn't the first president either to be in such a position. Clinton took over an economy that had already bottomed out from a recession. Reagan faced a steep recession in his first term, but it took off right at the right time, the election.

I believe the US economy will fare better under Trump than we will under Trudeau, but that is not saying much. They will have lower taxes and be free of the burden of a national carbon pricing system that will make our goods and services less competitive than our neighbours to the South.

We will have to rethink our carbon crap, or will be SOL .. and deservedly so

But we stupidly yield the same  advantage to China and others, so what else is new?

Somehow we narrowly escaped the carbon taxes. My theory-- Early in his presidency Obama floated a lot of trial balloons on "cap and trade" but he never really pushed it.  IMO I think his health care push was more important to him and he didn't want to spread his political capital too thin, so he opted for the health care route instead.

Which, I believe, president trump is about to repeal.
