Now, I can enlighten you regarding these sexual assault and assault statistics that tell us that one in 5 women have been sexually assaulted.



STEP 1.



Broaden the definition of "assault" and "sexual assault" so that it includes such actions as "economic assault" (withholding money from partners), "emotional assault" (calling her bad names) "inappropriate touching" (that includes hugging) and "verbal assault" ( indecent suggestions).



STEP 2.



Add up ALL the reported cases and then add in cases that go unreported on the presumption that they MUST exist and actually DID happen.(that is sheer guesswork). Note its reported cases, not proven or convictions.



STEP 3.



Divide the result above by the number of women in the sample population, et voila...1 in 5. But, I hear you say, what about the number of repeat offences...a wife reporting assault several times. A women gang raped by several men. No matter. 1 report, 1 WOMAN violated.



Reaching 1 in 5 DIFFERENT AND SEPARATE women under those data sets is a breeze.
