Funny how the song writer used fiction to make the song more dramatic. The seawall construction was started because of and after the 1900 hurricane. Now, the seawall has had water come over it but that was in 2008, same storm that wiped out my house there. Seawall was not the cause of my house getting totaled, but rather the flood dyke that protects the little cities and towns along the ship channel and behind Galveston bay. In fact had the flood dyke not been there I would not have had any water get in the house, but since I can easily see the dyke from my house, the upward surge of the water being stopped pushed the depth to over 12+ feet above sea level which put about 18 inches of water in my house.
