Quote from: "shin"Not really. I'm not feeling festive this year.

How about you, Fash?

I'm sorry you are not in a festive mood shin..

I won't pry though..

I have such a bad cold that I didn't volunteer for the Salvation Army yesterday nor go to Sunday fellowship today..

But, I am on holidays  now until January 2.

Oh, I'm not depressed. I just never goy into the habit of putting up Christmas decorations, and I don't really give gifts to people.

When I was a child, our parents used to make us help put up the tree and decorations and I quickly associated this with being a chore. Also, my parents often just asked us what we wanted for Christmas, and if it was something reasonable (like a toy) they would get it for us.. They even let us open our presents early in later years.

I guess you could say my view of Christmas is sort of defective. I think my brother and sister feel the same way.

What will you do Christmas eve and Christmas day shin?

Nothing special, really. I might go see a movie or just go out jogging.

If you mean Kwanzaa, I don't actually know anyone who celebrates it.

Not that...

Black christmas... Black santa and everything. :D

Kwanzaa is a black supremacist holiday and it needs to be forbidden.

Dun think Shin even realize the idea of Black Christmas exist or gives a damn about it, one thing for sure is I trust ppl like Shin.

What's Black Christmas?

Anyhow.. I know how the military thinks on foreign soil..

Better to use the local troops because its their land...

Americans are not as well motivated to fight than the local chinese..

Let us not forget that you were a good soldier in those times if you knew how to shoot straight.

Veteran american soldiers even refused to land in normandy because only a fool attacks machine-guns head on...

They used fresh troops.. Idiots who didnt know shit.

America likes to claim victory over WW2 but in here we know that wasnt the case... Americans couldnt have won alone.

The brits and aussies pretty much did what the US commanded them to do.. Otherwise they would have cut the support.

Sure the US could have won alone, just threatening to drop the 3rd atomic bomb on Tokyo was enough to force Japan to surrender without having to put up with anymore bloodshed.

But there was a lot of fighting prior to that..

They might have not reached that point without allies.

USA has a habit of arriving late to the battle... And then claiming victory..

WWI and WW2 invasion of Normandy.

WW2 mopping up the wehrmacht remnant was really heroic stuff.

Nazi-Germany would have eventually defeated soviet union.. And then USA..

Not both at once.

Lol you're assuming again, the Chinese and British so called allies didn't accomplished anything accept lost the entire campaign and surrendered to the IJA in Malaysia/Sinagpore.  It was the Yanks that started gaining the edge after sinking 3 of Japan's carriers during midway, winning battles after battles nonstop to a level even the brainwashed fearless Japanese lost all hope and morale, knowing they'll just lose every fight against the US.  I can guarantee with or without allies the US would have easily won this one sided war anyways, not to mention Japan lost all their experienced fighter pilots while the Americans are known to take shifts between rookies and veterans to maintain a balance and preserve their flying aces.  Since Japan hardly have any carriers left and their remaining battleships were just useless and easy target practices against dozens, waves after waves of US aircraft carrier bombers and fighters.

And for mainland Japan dun even get me started, lol, unlike Germany, the whole country is practically defenseless, even the troops deployed there expected fight tooth and nail were shocked to find out there was absolutely nothing stopping them from walking to the local cities, no radar, anti aircraft guns or searchlights, nothing but peace and quietness.  So yea overall this was how the Japanese got annihilated by the US in conventional naval and aero battles, the only chance of resistance they had was guerilla warfare against the US marines on the pacific islands but eventually the US won all of them, despite all the bloody battle, especially the last few ones.

I'm not too familiar with the battles in Europe but didn't the Soviets crushed the Nazis near the end of the war in USSR?  Not only were the German's supply line over stretched, but their soldiers, combat vehicles and tanks were never designed for the extreme cold in Russia, not just that but their tanks are were not match for the newer butt ugly Soviet tanks with superior slope armour design and same goes for their fighters, the luffwaffe fighters are just average at most.

For some reason the war lasted for years..

The japanese were putting up a fight.

They were being stalled big time...

Mainland Japan was invaded after they surrendered.. Of course there was no fighting..

Americans were not willing to go to war..

Heavy casualties would have been hard to explain.. They used other troops..

Soviets did get the germans on the run but they were not defeated.. The germans would have just regrouped..

Soviets were throwing a big part of their population against the german lines and they were getting mowed down.

The last soviet attack was intended to create an opening for the americans to land and stab the germans in the back...

The german equiptment was far superior to soviet/other allied equiptment but the soviets relied on quantity over quality..

The germans invented a lot of the stuff militaries use today.. Most of the stuff.. Most of the tactics aswell..

Soviets were just flooding the battlefields with crap.. :D

Quote from: "Fashionista"A thread about obesity, and physical fitness is about the second world war..

Oh well, carry on.

I was finding the turn of events to be amusing.

"I once wrestled a two headed bear with one arm tied behind my back and one leg chained to a tree in the middle of a minefield under the sea. I almost didn't walk away from that one, but I discovered I was running low on cigarettes and the nearest shop was about 1500 miles away... a distance that would have taken me at least a day to sprint.

...so I pulled out a Swiss Army knife and gutted the bear in one fell swoop, chewed through the chain, and drank the sea dry... but not before using the bear carcass to detonate every single mine in my path. Then I made a nifty coat out of what was left of his hide and carried on. I got there just in the nick of time, but I had no currency on me, so I just murdered the merchant with a Twinkie I found on the shelf and took what I wanted... and that's how I become the Emperor of Antarctica and spread my seed unto every continent.

You won't find me in any history books because I learned how to escape from the time space continuum."

I´m just comparing militaries..

We finns think of the military training as nothing at all.. But it is infact hellish.

The draft happens at 18years old..

Some people think that american navy seals/marines overall and SAS walk on water but we have harder training for our average infantry.

We think we must improve all the time.. Nothing is ever good enough... We always think somebody else is better..

No one is better than Finland... at making vodka. just kidding

We're bombarded with propaganda at an early age about how great it is to live in the land of the free and that we owe it all to our military, and that if it weren't for our elite troops we would surely be speaking German today.

I think the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" might have originated here.

Well, making vodka is an art.. Finnish labels go to your head like a sledgehammer.. But some of the foreign liquors with higher alcohol content dont even give you a decent drunkness.

The truth is that without the soviets, americans would be speaking german now..

Americans like letting others do fighting for them and then claiming victory.

Looking at the casualties... WW2

Americans lose about 15k troops while the brits lose 200k troops...

The americans are either bulletproof supermen or they dont take part in the actual fighting.
