QuotePrime Minister Justin Trudeau never misses an opportunity to boast about how his government will do everything it can to protect Canadians' Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Convicted terrorist Omar Khadr is Trudeau's most high-profile example for his Charter of Rights arguments. When he was a teenager, Khadr killed a U.S. soldier while fighting with the Taliban.  The Supreme Court ruled Khadr's rights were violated during his captivity. The Liberal Government compensated him with a $10.5 million payout.

It was like winning the lottery. It was all taxpayer money. Trudeau has been defending that multi-million dollar apology ever since. He has said repeatedly, "the fact is, that we should all be outraged that a Canadian government violated a Canadian's fundamental rights."

What about the fundamental rights and freedoms of Canadians who are being denied Canada Summer Jobs funding unless they sign an oath stating they agree with the Liberal Government's position on abortion? Justin Trudeau has no problem violating their rights. Freedom of Religion, Conscience and Belief are just a few of the Charter Rights being violated.

This year, the Liberal government requires everyone applying for a Canada Summer Jobs Grant to sign an "attestation" that neither their core mandate, nor the jobs being funded, oppose human rights.  That includes reproductive rights.  That amounts to an "attestation" that they agree with abortion.

Most churches and faith-based groups believe abortion is morally wrong. But there is no way around the abortion rights oath in the application. If they apply online, they must check the box that they agree with women's reproductive rights. If they don't check the box, they can't go any further in the online application process  If they mail it in and the box isn't checked, the application won't be processed.

Eighty per cent of the Canada Summer Jobs applicants in my riding of Niagara West are churches or faith-based charities. My office has received emails and phone calls from church organizers worried that they won't be able to offer programs to hundreds of children this summer because their application will be rejected.

One such church program in Grimsby contacted my office to say organizers are submitting a paper application with an additional letter of explanation as to why they can't check the "attestation." This program offers a summer camp experience to more than 300 children. Many of those children have developmental disabilities. The Summer Jobs Grant money is used in part to train camp counsellors how to interact with these children. But this year the program is in jeopardy because the church will most likely be denied federal funding.

Employment Minister Patty Hadju has said the federal government won't pay for work that actively undermines Canadians rights. How does the work churches do undermine fundamental rights? Churches feed the poor, help settle refugees and organize summer camps for disadvantaged children. Why are they being denied federal funding? It's discriminatory. The attestation is offensive. It violates the very Charter Rights it claims to defend.

Justin Trudeau has said a church's core mandate is not anti-abortion activism, so therefore, it can check the box. But the issue is that church leaders cannot morally check a box that affirms they agree with the right to abortion. These church leaders and program organizers have integrity. But integrity is something Justin Trudeau simply doesn't understand.

This shows what a hypocritical fraud True Dope is. He has no problem giving millions of dollars of our money away to convicted muslime killers, but churches that don't agree with him on abortion don't get money to hire students. It's fucking outrageous.

Why the fuck is this irrelevant, nosy question even being asked? What's next, this question being on the online job applications for the federal snivel service/

This is offensive, intrusive and an affront to free speech..

This is what Chiang Kai Shek did when he was Taiwan's dictator....agree with him or else there will be consequences..

Meanwhile, our church will be denied funding that employs young people and helps various disadvantaged groups in my city..

I'm upset about this.

About eighty per cent of the 69,000 temporary jobs created last year through this program are run by faith groups. Their opinions on abortion are not an issue for getting summer jobs. This attestation is a violation of fundamental rights and should be immediately dropped.

Bricktop

At least Trudeau reminds me that we don't have the world's worst leader.

Second worst, maybe...

But not the worst.

JT is the most inept and ideological pm we've had in my lifetime.

I don't know much about Turnbull other than he's unpopular.

Bricktop

He is inept, ideological but utterly disconnected from the population. Either that or he just ignores us and keeps doing dumb things.

Classic leftist totalitarianism.

Message--There is only one acceptable opinion on Islam, only one accaptable opinion on global warming, only one acceptable opinion on abortion etc on down the line.  Disagree and you will be punished.

I'm not religious and I am pro choice (for two trimesters) but I think this is a disgusting abuse of freedom, a violation of the charter, and tyrannical abuse of government power.  Hopefully there is enough outrage to stop trudeau's tyranny, if not maybe the courts will strike it down.

This is something you would expect from a third world dictatorship or the old soviet union not a constitiutional democracy.

I was talking with my mother today about this and we both agree with you, and my mother lived in Taiwan under Chiang's dictatorship.

His father was deadly. He ordered Marshall law simply because a high placed figure  was murdered, likely by an anti govt group

A test clearly ... to see just how far he could go

Sunny is not bright like daddy, but under it all he is also a totalitarian inside and will push the limits up to and including totalitarianism if he can get away with it
