I never watched any of the games.  The Olympics are over rated...its just a bunch of pompous competative rich people who put countries in massive debt for 2 weeks of stupid games.

The winter Olympics are expected to cost South Korea $12.9 billion..

That amount is more than the $7 to 8 billion that was estimated when Pyeongchang was announced as host in 2011.

And all for rich kids to play silly games in the snow and ice.

The summer Olympics in in 1988 made good use of new infrastructure in Seoul. But, that just isn't the case for Pyeongchang.

Any athletic excellence is a great feat though it is not the ultimate in human experiences. How wonderful to continue the tradition that originated in ancient Greece. I enjoy these Olympic games, summer and winter. It unites peoplekind. Heehee.

Then why do people only take an interest every four years.

99% of people who watch the Olympic games wouldn't get out of bed to go to a local athletics meeting.

Berry Sweet

Most regular people can't afford such sports.  It's just rich people.  I haven't heard any talk or excitement from anyone about the Olympics...if I didn't see the news, I wouldn't even know it was going on.

There's the use of drugs every year and cheating....rich people competitiveness...isnt it great the death threats the Canadian speed skater got??  Yeah the Olympics are great.

Of course the cost will double to build and promote...putting the country in debt for years on end...the cost of a ticket to get I to a venue is ducking retarded...seriously...$500-$1000??  What random Joe and Jane will fly there to watch some idiots participate in stupid sports?   Yeah no thx....rather go somewhere tropical and fun.

Of course. It's too bad about the negative attitude towards it but that's how it goes. These athletes are trained in many ways including ignoring their critics. They can't care less if you are not a fan. You cannot make everyone happy. "The lion does not concern itself with the opinions of the sheep." I always say that.

I refuse to live in a world where even the regular folks cannot dream big. It starts with a dream. It isn't true that all Olympic athletes are rich. They first have to show a skill, then they get endorsements, sponsorships, and even grants. They strike up deals. They train hard and compete and the sponsorship continues. If they happen to be creative and entrepreneurial, then they are going to go far even if they never win a medal in the Olympics.

Dream big y'all!

I'm glad my kids never liked hockey, they did baseball and soccer instead.  Nice cheap sports.

Although they moved on to music--saxophones (tenor and alto) and drums and those cost quite a bit, especially the drum set, yowch!

BTW this olympics is the worst rated ever.
