the viral reaction 18-year-old Keziah Daum has sparked with her prom dress is shocking, in no small part because of its disproportionate intensity. Her decision to wear a Chinese outfit called (depending on your dialect) a qipao or a cheongsam to prom in Utah, despite having no Chinese ancestry -- and then tweeting pictures of her posing with friends at prom -- has launched a social media debate around cultural appropriation that's generated hundreds of thousands of posts and comments, many of them outraged, and some of them outrageous.



As she said to Buzzfeed, "I never imagined a simple rite of passage such as a prom would cause a discussion reaching many parts of the world," Daum said. "Perhaps it is an important discussion we need to have."



She's right on that point: Cultural appropriation is a real and serious concern that's deeply intertwined with issues like colonialism, labor theft, racial privilege and ethnic stereotyping. Dismissal of the phenomenon is often simply a knee-jerk reaction by those seeking to assail what they see as "political correctness."

Its todays world, and its a white girl wearing it, Im guessing thats where the "outrage" is. Though plenty of white women before have worn them. Nothing wrong with wearing one at all. I've even chopped a white guy into one lol. But now I guess if you wear something not of your culture, its "bad". I say fuck the haters! Not literally of course

I've long had a cpl of very sexy Chinese style silk  dresses  .... both form fitting  ... one a side split pretty much to the thigh and another front slit not quite so high up    .. c/w very high heels is an absolute must .. . and I mean pointy heels stiletto style, not thick like those in the pic



Use these floor length dresses often for fun sexy evenings at home and have worn out on occasion to dark intimate restaurants



 I consider it a way of complimenting another culture ... this current group of fake snowflakes have no clue about anything much less have any valuable advice to pass on to people. What sad / closed  lives they must live .. never experiencing anything good or fun or intimate
