Did you just install it? If you did, is it for back up for main power source? I own a condo, but if I buy a house when I retire, I'm thinking about solar for primary power. I heard after installation costs it cuts your power bill in half.

It's for only basic power. Lights, recharging devices like mobile phones and UHF radios  and running a 40 litre camp fridge for 12-19  days Max... that's without a recharge.

The battery is hooked up to a 2k generator and solar panels.

I still have our lead acid battery system but it's approaching 6 years old and has started faltering. Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries can't be be drawn down past 50-60% on the regular.

This isn't an "install" as such...

It's a portable power plant.

Acts more like a generator for back up or for basic power like you said.

Used sparingly, it fulfills all the benchmarks of normal domestic life... if you need full on air con, ovens, and lights on.... not for you.

PS: a battery is not a generator. It's merely a storage bank. The solar panels, wind turbines, or portable generators are the generators.

The battery is the core/heart...

Seems most who left SA went to 'stralia ... is that accurate?

I was born in  'stralia but moved to Canada as a young child .... Do still have fond memories of the beach in Wollongong

Yeah, a lot of South Africans immigrated to Australia and NZ because the climate is similar.

The 'Gong I know all too well. I used to have a few garden walls (vertical gardens) over there that I installed and maintained as a business. I also used to travel further south and surf Bawlty Point and Pretty Beach quite a bit. I have some nice pics to show you around the region you used to live. Give me a minute...

Nice red bellied black snake! Perhaps one of the most docile venomous snakes here... surprised you get them in NSW.

I love those fuckers... they literally flee at the first sign of noise.

They are everywhere here in NSW. I do a lot of herping. I'm holding two of them here. One of them in this photo is from the previous shot above. These were feisty as and I forgot I was wearing my sandals. I released them after the shot was taken. Lol

I've come here to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Clearly. But he may have experience handling snakes and can do so in relative safety.

But those things can kill you.

I'm cool with most spiders except white-tails... we have had a colony of red backs produce one renter at any one time in the corner of our toilet for years now and we leave them be...

...snakes are another story. They're brazen things when it warms up....except red belly blacks... they just flee at the first sign of trouble. There's a local billabong we take dips in and it's funny how many red bellies shit the pool the moment you approach...half a dozen or more just hightailing up the banks and into the bush...

Eastern Browns are little pricks. My mate had one last year slither under his camp chair while fishing and try to crawl into his Esky. Tigers are motherfuckers...
