Quote from: "Fashionista"I've heard they have hands and can remove lids from bins as easily as people do.

They sure do!  When I was a kid, we fed a family of 'coons that eventually became so tame around us that they would take an egg right out of our hands and eat it right there.  You could see how well they could grasp the egg with their hands.

What we did was actually a bad practice, because these things started to think they were our fucking pets, and would enter the house if the door was open.  And they caused problems around the house and yard.

We stopped feeding them, as to not attract them anymore to the yard...

I've never seen raccoons in Calgary.

They are pests in Southern Ontario. So, are wild turkeys.

Just tested out the 24-120mm 2.8-4 f-stop lens purchased a few months ago.  IQ seems to better than both of my macro and 1.8 aperture prime lens.

What kind of cameras do you people have?  My mom wants to buy one for me (for my birthday which was 2 months ago) but I still haven't looked into them...ugh!  Help!

Bricktop

I have two.

Nikon D7100 for using at or near home, Olympus OMD Micro 4/3s Mirrorless for travel and ease of carrying. Both highly capable cameras but cost $$$$$

But buying a camera is a complex process.

Do you want high quality with a steep learning curve? Get a DSLR like a Nikon D5400.

Do you want good quality with ease of use? Get a small compact with a zoom lens.

Do you want to just take snaps? Use your iPhone and forget about cameras.

Remember, though, with DSLR's the camera is not the only outlay. You need the interchangeable lenses. Most cameras come with "kit" lenses, which are passable but not great. A GREAT lens will cost $1000 at LEAST, some getting up to $20,000. But that's for pros who make $$$. I have seven lenses. Built in flashes are useless as well, so if shooting indoors you'd need a flash gun.

If you want to take GREAT photos, I'd suggest you either do a course, or just watch You Tube videos such as this....

I will watch that after I get back from the store.

I want a good quality camera with lenses I can change.  I want to take nice good quality photos.  I dont know too much about today's modern cameras but I do love photography.

I took photography in high school and a but after high school but never kept going :(

At that time we were still using film.  I did a lot of b&w photography.  I still have my enlarged, easel, and chemical trays.  I really do miss those days!

Speaking of which...my new place, the laundry room is complete darkness and perfect for such old school stuff!!!  I should pull out my old camera and buy some b&w film....take the kid out to take pics on the old camera and then have fun on the weekend developing the film and using the enlarge to make pics....and then of course the developing!  Lots of work, but what an experience that would be for her!  To see how much photography has changed over the years!  That sounds like so much fun!  And I can bring out my CD player and play all my old school music while we in the dark room!

But anyway...moving forward...I would like to get back into photography...only modern and digital.  I want to take pics of nature and photoshoots....perhaps it's something I can pursue on the side and make a little money if I still have my knack for photography again.

So its quality that I want.

Bricktop

Then you need a DSLR.

So then you need to decide what KIND of DSLR!!! Full frame replicate the old film format, hence "full frame", but are expensive and really only pros need the advantage they offer of APS (crop sensor) models which use smaller sensors and have smaller lighter bodies. They are cheaper than full frame.

Then there is the ballooning area of mirrorless cameras, which are smaller again, offer amazing image quality and come in both crop sensor AND full frame (massive dollars for full frame). Mirrorless are great for travel because both the body and lens are smaller, and there are shooting advantages in having no mirror in the body.

However, I think you should start with a base, entry level DSLR. Cheap, light yet powerful and take all the lenses you'll need. Then, as you develop your expertise, you can swap out the body for more advanced models without the need to change out your lens.

I think Nikon's entry level models are the best, and their lens range is vastly superior to any other make. They are crop sensor, but they take all and any Nikon lens...even really old ones. I use a 1994 80-200 2.8 with my modern D7100. It would cost a fortune to replace with a modern variant, but it works perfectly.

However, Canon is also good, and though I haven't used Pentax in decades, I understand their entry level is quite good...but their lens inventory is small. You won't be able to rise through the levels of expertise with Pentax.

You should have stretched out the last line...  Why you start the "you" so far from the margin?  It would have spread out properly had you not done that, and gone off-margin.

Now it's ruined.
