A teenager in Britain has been found guilty of charges that she disseminated a "grossly offensive message by means of a public electronic communications network" -- by posting rap lyrics on a social media site.

Chelsea Russell, 19, of Liverpool posted some lyrics on Instagram from Snap Dogg's "I'm Trippin'" to pay tribute to a 13-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car last summer, the BBC reported. The lyrics said "kill a snitch n****, rob a rich n****."

Russell was found guilty of a hate crime and must now wear an electronic bracelet to allow authorities to monitor her movements. She was also given a curfew from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. She was also given eight weeks of community service and ordered to pay costs of £500 and an £85 "victim surcharge."
All I can say is that the defence lawyers of the UK are either part of the anti-free speech movement, or utterly incompetent.

That would NOT fly in any other jurisdiction.

Of greater concern, if the article is to be believed, is that the Police Officer acted as a result of her OWN feelings, not what would be accepted in the community. THAT is very worrisome.

the BBC gives roughly the same account--"The screenshot was passed to hate crime unit PC Dominique Walker, who told the court the term was "grossly offensive" to her as a black woman and to the general community."

Not only was she unobjective, she announced her personal bias in the matter, like a badge of honor.

Also, a hate crime has to have a victim.  Who is the victim?  The girl did not say anything bad about a black person or even black people.  she just quoted a lyric (BTW you probably already know, but rap artists use the "n word" all the time, why isn't this "black woman" bothered by that?)

Its disgusting what's happening in the UK. Such a wonderful country, and the left is turning it into a Stalinist/Hitleresque police state where thought crimes are punished.  It makes me sick.

This .. quoting the words of someone else  who is not prosecuted  .... added to someone being prosecuted simply for quoting the exact words of the kranny supports your words

 "Britain is a lost cause."

While not literally true it is true in general

 "Britain is a lost cause."

That said, many other countries seem headed in this direction

BTW I just remembered this is what they're doing to Le Pen in France because she tweeted ISIS pictures.

Marine Le Pen, the French far-Right leader, was charged on Thursday for posting graphic images of atrocities by Isil jihadists on Twitter — including a photograph of the decapitated body of an American reporter.

The move by a judge in Nanterre, a Paris suburb, came after the National Assembly voted in November to strip the National Front president of her parliamentary immunity from prosecution for tweeting three photographs showing killings by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

The images, tweeted in December 2015 with the caption "This is Daesh [the Arabic acronym for Isil]," included a picture of the beheaded journalist, James Foley, a man on fire in a cage and a tank driving over another victim.
And so it goes in the EUSSR/fourth reich where fascist leftists are destroying free speech and democracy.

While I don't like the lyrics in many rap songs, no real hate crime was committed.

I agree some rap lyrics are awful, as were these.  But there is no victim.  And IMO words only should never constitute a hate crime, actions need to be required.  This is a thought crime.

A government that punishes thought crimes is far far more dangerous than this girl, or anyone else could ever be.

Britain is finished.  Done.  No turning back now, as the damage is already done it seems...

HERE we go:

QuoteThe content was then passed to Constable Dominique Walker, who is based within a specialist police hate crime unit.

The court heard that Ms Walker was the sister of Anthony Walker, who was the victim of a notorious race hate murder on Merseyside.

Constable Walker is Black, and was 'offended.'

I will assume the woman convicted of this 'hate crime' was White.  I would assume Cst. Walker, as a Black woman, would not go after her 'own people' for using offensive terms in a similar manner.

I will also assume that the woman convicted of a 'hate crime' emulated Nigger music and the Nigger lifestyle.  She can now sit back and begin to understand her true place in society.
