Sacrificial ram butts his owner to death

An Algerian man bought a big ram to sacrifice it on Eid Al Adha. Instead, the ram sacrificed the man when he butted him to death.

After performing the Eid dawn prayers in the northeastern port of Annaba, the man went back home, got a big knife and prepared the ram for slaughter.

"As he prepared it for sacrifice, the ram surprisingly butted the man, who fell on the ground and died minutes later," the Algerian Khabar newspaper said.

Carnage at Saudi wedding after celebratory gunfire cuts electric cable, electrocuting at least 23 guests

RIYADH — Celebratory gunfire at a wedding party in eastern Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night brought down an electric cable, killing at least 23 people, mostly women, a local civil defence official said.

"At the wedding, the cable fell on a metal door and the 23 people who died were all electrocuted," Eastern Province official Abdullah Khashman said by phone.

A photograph of the aftermath of the accident, published on local newspapers' websites showed a large courtyard strewn with fallen chairs and a pole in the middle supporting cables carrying lightbulbs.

All those killed were from the same tribe, Khashman said. Thirty others were injured in the incident near Abqaiq, a centre of the Saudi energy industry.

Saudi Arabia banned the shooting of firearms at weddings, a popular tradition in tribal areas of the conservative Islamic kingdom, last month.
