The masked lapwing is a vicious brute. Here's one rising up to repel a passing seagull...because it can.



If you look close, you may see the spurs on its wing joint (about half way along the outstretched wing). This spur will cause significant damage to other birds in the air, which is why they tend to leg it if the lapwing heads their way.



Nasty bird all round, really.

They look nasty. I've seen seagulls attack ospreys tho... My husband got some pretty good shots of baby seagulls on his phone...

I got to see the Bobcat dig out a squirrel Fash... poor thing...



Baby seagulls. They're grown up now.

It's only been in the last few years that bobcats have started coming into the city and even giving birth to kittens here..



The slightly larger lynx is still shy of human contact....they are usually further north anyway..



There was a cougar removed from the city a couple of years ago.

Well hunger drives them in I guess but really, humans moved to their territories... Humans aren't nomads these days. They find a house and live in it 365 days a year. ... In the old days in your area, everything moved south for the winter.

It seems to have a pleasant climate without extreme heat.

Albany is beautiful. My brother lives there..

I'd love to do that...take the camera. The Olympus is freeze proof.
