This one is rather special. Went bushwalking yesterday, in natural bushland where bird life is prolific, but very hard to photograph due to both the environment and the fleeting nature of the birds.

Australia's smallest bird...the Weebill.

Incredibly timid, incredibly fast and incredibly small. 8cm long at most, and half of that tail. It took luck, patience and the right equipment to take this pic. Not great, but good enough to see the little guy close up.

Bricktop

And a brown goshawk...

Looks rather unimpressive, but is a ruthless hunter of many animals, both on land and in the air. These are bad news for any mammal, reptile or bird in the area.

Unusual eyes.

Bricktop

All the better to see it's dinner with.

Nasty bird all round if you're small and tasty.

It was about 50 metres up in a tree, and I'm sure he looked at us deciding if we were worth trying for a meal. They kill for their food.

Birds of prey have excellent vision.

I don't know what kind of bird this is.

Perhaps caskur or Bricktop will know.

Bricktop

It's a waterfowl of some sort.
