These are the long-billed corella Bricktop took pictures of. They were nearly brought to extinction in Victoria.

Most States have banned culling of native species.



Many species were culled to extinction, and many were on the verge of disappearing altogether because of hunting and culling in Australia's early years. Since protection was introduced, they have recovered, and in many cases are rather too prolific. Not just birds, by crocodiles, bats, wallabies and other marsupials such as the bilby.



The principle now is we have to learn to live with them, and let mother nature manage the numbers.



Whilst its true that some critters cause damage to primary producers, that's largely because early settlers decimated their habitats.



Most if not all of Australian farmland is cleared natural forest and bushland.

And this morning, a pair of sulphur crested (named for obvious reasons) cockatoos dropped by. Common bird, but I think they're rather beautiful.

Those beautiful and intelligent birds are about $5000 each in Canada..



They can be great talkers.

That's why there's always some asshole trying to take them out of the country in suitcases.



Their screech is not a pleasant sound...and when there's a LOT of them, the cacophony can be deafening.



But they are a lovely bird with real personality, even in the wild.

I don't think there are sulphur crested cockatoos coming from Australia..



We have breeders in every province.
