I don't usually agree with caskur, but she has been an excellent addition to the community.

I pick up refuse other people leave behind when we go camping in the summer.

I do sometimes, all depends. Most the forestry places I go are usually trash free.

Most camp sites we go to, campers are responsible and if they leave anything behind, campground employees dispose of it..

But, it's on trails and in the bush garbage occasionally gets left behind.

I believe the motto here is "pack it in, pack it out"  :smiley_thumbs_up_yellow_ani:

Even when Im camping out in the middle of nowhere, I take a plastic freezer bag to stow my trash til I get home. I have a zero tolerance policy for fuckers that just toss something on the ground. I would love to be like that motorcyclist that spots a litterer and scoops it up, catches up with them, gets them to roll their window down, and then chucks it at them through the window
I've come here to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

It's that motto  everywhere. You are only supposed to drink on boats with a washroom that are anchored at dock too, but that is a rule that is not followed. When they get drunk, garbage ends up in lakes.

But since I have been driving in the countryside, the sides of our road are disgusting though bins are provided EVERYWHERE... .

And your State government, as every other State government, fails to implement a hugely effective and successful way to reduce discarded drink containers, a major source of littering refuse.

ALL take away drink containers in SA, be they glass, metal or cardboard have a 10c deposit applied to them. Soft drinks, bottled water, alcoholic beverages, flavoured milk and "health" drinks are recycled because each one returns 10c when taken to an authorised recycling centre.

Some people LIVE off the money they make collecting discarded drink containers, and many don't throw them away but collect them for their kids to cash in. Literally THOUSANDS of drink containers are recycled every day.

We've had this system for many years, and it works. Yet YOUR government and the rest can't be bothered implementing it, because it's too hard. Even though there is a mountain of evidence to prove how effective it is.

QuoteSouth Australia leads the nation in the recovery, recycling and litter reduction of beverage containers with a current, overall return rate of 79.9%. With the refund scheme, beverage containers make up only 2.9% of litter.

Almost 80 percent of all drink containers are recycled. Where do YOURS ago when discarded?

We have that in Ontario ranging from ten cents per individual can or bottle to 25 cents for four litre milk jugs. As a bachelor I only buy one litre or 500 mi cartons of milk.

I am surprised some Australian states don't have a recycling system yet.

Bricktop

So are we.

It works.

The question has to be asked...if they don't have a recycling system, where does THERE plastic, glass, aluminium and cardboard go?

caskur

Perth had green bins since the mid 1980 and recycle yellowed lids not long after...

But where does your discarded waste go?

Not that which is thrown in bins...but on the ground.

Well some of it ends up in the water ways... I know Kurt, a neighbour and I went cleaning plastic shit out of Frederick Baldwin Park in Kardinya one time.. the lake if constantly topped up from road drains..

I'm not worried about paper, glass, or cans, they're just unsightly but plastic murders animals and THAT is the atrocity of plastic.

I photographed us cleaning up the lake.

My husband and neighbour... they filled that bucket and it became very heavy.

I don't know where our tips are now. I know there is a recycling plant near the Perth Airport where they want to murder all the poor ibis...

That's not very much..

It looks like it was discarded by people too lazy to put garbage in bins while walking along the lake.

Bricktop

Now imagine that's $2 just sitting there. How long would it stay there then?

Frood

We have recycling centres here but the problem is that much of what people try to recycle isn't worth the effort with the recyclers once it gets dumped on the conveyor and sorted. So milk cartons, jugs, glass in various colours, bundled papers and magazines all get eagerly sorted, and much of the rest taken to landfill. Just because it has a triangle on it doesn't mean they're obligated to recycle it, just deal with it.
Blahhhhhh...

Bricktop

Whereas here, the producers of waste are compelled to recycle. That's the whole point of the deposit system. 80% of packaging is returned to the manufacturer, and its on them to recycle.

Other States think it's too hard to implement, when what they really mean is the corporate organisations that fund them won't allow the to.

caskur

That's fresh washed in garbage from rain fall... we went around the back and Kurt fished out the sunken stuff with a rake... we didn't even touch the surface... you could spend a whole week there cleaning it up.

We recycle everything in my province..

Soup cans, mini drink boxes, everything..

You see people looking for trash to exchange for cash along highways.
