Las Vegas Shooting: 50 Killed and 406 Hurt Near Mandalay Bay



A gunman fired a barrage of bullets on an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas Sunday night, killing at least 50 people and injuring more than 400 others, police said, in the worst mass shooting in modern American history.



From his room on the 32nd floor of a glitzy hotel, the shooter, identified by law enforcement officials as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, fired shot after shot down on the crowd of more than 22,000, sending terrified concertgoers running for their lives.



"We heard what sounded like firecrackers going off. Then all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a machine gun. People started screaming that they were hit... When we started running out there were probably a couple hundred [people] on the ground," witness Meghan Kearney told MSNBC.

The shooting is not believed to be connected to international terrorism.

Saudi women will soon be allowed to drive!!!!



The royal decree by King Salman ordered the formation of a ministerial body to give advice within 30 days, then implement the order by June 2018, according to state news agency.



Saudi Arabia has announced that it will let women drive. The move comes after decades of campaigning from human rights groups.



The kingdom, which has a history of oppressive laws against women, made the decision public through a state television address Tuesday.

Tennessee man sentenced over plot to attack Muslim community



(Reuters) - A former Congressional candidate from Tennessee has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for plotting to burn down a mosque, a school and a cafeteria in upstate New York, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Thursday.



Robert Doggart, 65, was sentenced on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga, where he was convicted in February of trying to recruit people to commit arson and violate civil rights.



Doggart was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in April 2015 after saying in wiretapped telephone calls that he planned to recruit a militia and travel to Islamberg, a rural town that is home to a small Muslim community in Hancock, New York, about 130 miles (209 km) northwest of New York City.



While there, he intended to "carry out an armed attack" that included burning down a mosque or "blowing it up with a Molotov cocktail or other explosive device," the statement said.



"I don't want to have to kill children, but there's always collateral damage," Doggart said on one of the recorded calls, according to the statement.

We are rounding out our last month or so of elementary school.  The kids have been registered for high school and all those fun life changes that go with children aging are upon us (much to my chagrin!)  I'm wondering what it's really like to have a couple of teenagers in the house.  Does anyone have any insight they could offer on life with teens?

I had the pleasure of dining with a Korean woman and her elderly mother last night.  I learned a couple interesting things like Koreans are born one years old rather than 0 like we do.  I also learned cooking is women's work but I was wondering if that's changed over the years.



Also, I'll be going for Korean food in the next week.  Any suggestions for must try dishes?  I've never had it before.
